This is not your typical museum, from its unassuming outside to the strange and beautiful hair art inside. I dragged my boyfriend here, and he found it interesting but creepy. I found it endlessly fascinating and definitely sparked my interest in this little-known art form. When we arrived, we were the only people in the building and the docent there gave us a personal tour with helpful explanations about many of the pieces. (I don't think you have the option to do a self-guided tour). My only complaint is that the $15 per person cost is very high. The docent explained that Leila purchases most of the pieces. Perhaps she could try to solicit more donations instead of purchasing and that could bring the cost of admission down. I know that if I had any hair wreaths in my possession, I would certainly donate them to this museum!

This is an interesting place to visit and learn about an old art form passed down from 1000's of years through different cultures. Leila is most knowledgeable and a wonderful guide through her collection.

We had a bit of sticker shock at first. It is $15 for an adult admission. Plus they do not accept credit cards. However, what you end up with is a personalized tour. This is a collection of hair art. Before there were pictures people would take a lock of hair from their loved ones and make it into flowers and wreaths. For instance, there is a wreath that had the hair of every guest at a wedding. It was like a portrait before photography. There is also hair jewelry. Bracelets, necklaces, and earrings all made of hair. Leila has a number of famous people's hair including; presidents, singers, actors, and religious figures. My ten and eight year old boys loved it. Their younger siblings were bored but free.

We always try to find a special museum on each trip and this was our special this time.We did not really know much about hair art, but now know a lot more. This museum is a must if you are in the area.We would never have guessed that human hair could be turned into wonderful art work. And not only art work, but it's like a family's history bound together. Most of the wreaths contained hairs of many family members, put together in incredible pieces of art. Be prepared to see incredible things made of human hari: not only wreaths, but also dolls, rings and all kinds of other wonderfully and patiently made little miracles. The lady at the entrance guided us through the museum and she had a lot of interesting information to share, loved it!Before we left, we were lucky to be able to meet Leila and her husband in person. What a great experience!

You would never guess looking from the outside the fascinating display on the inside. Victorian era art form using the hair of a loved one to create beautiful flower like wreaths that are framed and hung on walls. Make it a must see if you are in the area. An hour or so and you will have your fill. Great fun to tell your friends that you went to a hair museum!

I thought the photos on the website looked kind of creepy, but this really is a very interesting museum. Hearing Leila or Nancy talk about the pieces really makes it come alive. If you are looking for something a little different, don't miss this one!

I loved visiting this museum. I took a friend for her birthday, and we both thought it would be a little hokey, but it was amazing. I had no idea hair was such a significant art object. We saw hair wreaths that were incredibly intricate. Bracelets, pins, fobs, earrings, and all sort of jewelry were showcased, and there were rooms of it, not a small display. This is such a unique experience that I think it would be a great thing to do for a couple of hours.

Can you believe that people crochet hair into works of art? Can you image that in times past ladies gathered to make beautiful objects of jewelry from hair? A most fascinating place to visit. Located in a small building to hold so many items! Wonder collection. Will be traveling back to see more of what can be done with hair that we missed on this visit! Thank you! How entertaining, history oriented, and beautiful works of art with hair!!

My friend and I went on an excursion looking for oddities and unusual attractions. Of course, Leila's Hair Museum was on our list. We were not disappointed. It was fascinating--so many, many creations fashioned from hair. We were quite amazed. The descriptions and the displays were good and informative with plenty of historical data to support the craft and its era. We would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys history, culture, and handicrafts.

I enjoy seeing some of the different sights, and my visit to Leila's Hair Museum was one of my favorites! She has incredibly unique framed hair wreaths, with some of the family history and ages on them. Leila knows more about these "hair art" pieces than anyone at the Smithsonian, that's for sure!Don't miss it!
