Nathan Boone was a genuine Missouri icon – a hunter, soldier, surveyor...

It's not fancy or exciting, but it's not meant to be. No fireworks. Just a family's old historic home site.

We have been to this site several times in the past and always suggest people to visit as it is a nice historic site with plenty of trails. If you can only go one Tim the best time is when they have their Nathan Boone Days in October.

Great place for an afternoon picnic with the family, date or school group. Lot's of history here- just ask staff. Make sure you go to the office for a map (there are two driveways and we didn't realize there was an office the first time we went). Not far from Ash Grove so if you are in the area...it's well worth the drive out.

Nathan Boone was a hunter, soldier, surveyor, and businessman. He was the youngest son of Daniel Boone, who we all know, and this historic site is easily overlooked. A little off the beaten path, but worth the trip.

This is a nice little place to see if you are down that way. The homestead will take you back in time and can be a learning experience.

Thehistorical facts are interesting and in Springfield. I also liked how the guide is dressed in period costume and talks about the history.

Don't expect too much, but this off-the beaten-path historical spot fills in some of the gaps in Missouri's frontier history. Worth the trip for the history buff, it won't be of much interest to hyper-active kids.

You always hear about Daniel Boone, but very few people know he had quite a legacy in Missouri.

It is like stepping into another world. The state office trailer is what you find first. Then you have to walk to the old homestead of Nathan Boone. If you are not up on Missouri History, Nathan played a very important part in Missouri History, much more than his father, Daniel Boone did. Daniel died in Nathan's home in Defiance, Missouri and later Nathan moved to this homestead in Western Missouri on the prairie. This site is very much a work in progress, but the house is there and restored. The feeling of being out on the land is also there. I will be very interested to see what is done with the site in the future. There is a fee for a guided tour.
