critter barn

Just took my 2 youngest grandkids (almost 3 and 1) the other day. They got buckets of feed for the animals and loved feeding them. There were goats, pigs, chickens, cats, bunnies, sheep, peacocks, two very friendly donkeys, etc.. They loved seeing them all. Staff was very friendly. No admission charged but donations accepted which was gladly given. Would go back again.

On July 30, 2014, my wife and I visited Critter Barn during our week-long stay in Holland, Michigan. With us were five of our grandchildren; the youngest is 20 months old, the oldest is 11 years old. They don't have an entrance fee but they accept donations. I was glad to give a donation. Critter Barn is worth it. They were giving pony rides that day and there was a small fee for a pony ride. Critter Barn is such a hands-on place for children that each of our grandchildren was able to find interesting things to do. The staff and volunteers on duty were friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend Critter Barn for families with children.

My fiance and I visited the Critter Barn because we absolutely love animals, and we just had a blast! There were so many animals - we got to pet many of them - and the staff was so helpful and friendly. We can't wait to come back someday!

This place was fantastic! There were calves, horses, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, sheep, rabbits, cats and one dog. Our kids loved petting all the animals and picking them up and snuggling them. It is a real farm with real smells and everything. My daughter got to feed a baby cow from a bottle and was thrilled to be able to do so! It is free but they take donations. We spent almost 2 hours there, going back and forth among the cats, baby ducks and chicks, the rabbits and the goats. You could even feed hay to the animals. I will definitely go back next time we're in the area!

My children (3 and 5) and I visited this farm for the first time 2 days ago.We drove 3 hours just to check this place out and let me tell you we were not disappointed!When you turn to enter the farm it is a one lane road - if anyone is coming down someone is going to have to yield. Drive all the way to the end of the road and there you will find parking.There is a sign above the main barn guiding you through the front door to the greeting counter.FYI: There may not be someone at the counter at all times but you can talk to any of the many volunteers (wearing red shirts) located throughout the property. I was seriously impressed by the volunteers both young and old. The kids refilled our feed buckets when they were empty and everyone answered our questions and helped us on our way through the farm. My families first stop was the cats, then baby ducks and rabbits. Pretty sure the rabbits were everyone's favorite. There are so many rabbits you really won't know where to begin. You can feed them, pet them and enter a gated area where you can sit down and hold them. We have never met so many social rabbits! It was amazing to see so many rabbits at different stages of life - from 2 days old to adult. Each and every one were just adorable.After the bunnies we pet an adult chicken and then held baby chickens. They brought in a goat and showed us how hand milking works - we even got to try it for ourselves! We continued our visit around the farm and saw, Chinese brown geese, sheep, goats, cows, horses, turkeys galore at different stages of life, donkeys, ducks, and pot bellied pigs.It was unfortunate that we were unable to meet Mr. Chops but are glad to have been able to pay our respects. If you plan a visit bring your lunch and have a picnic! I did not know picnic tables were available otherwise we would have done so. There is a hand washing station with running water and soap. What more can I include? Oh yeah it's a farm - there are LOTS of smells. The only smell that was overwhelming for us was the cat area. I also want to point out that this place does not charge an admission fee, but does accept donations. I think I read on a sign that it costs $700 to run it daily. This is a WONDERFUL place to take your family. We went during their "Live Nativity" program and were really overwhelmed at the kindness of all the staff. They also went above and beyond to introduce us or tell us about animals around the barn. The smell was a little overwhelming at times -- but it is a barn -- so it would be what you expected. There are lots of hands-on activities for children. You can hold rabbits and baby chicks and pet a host of other farm animals. In previous visits, we have watched them shear sheep and other "farm" things that most kids today are not exposed to. My son was most excited to pet "Rumple" the star of the movie filmed at the Critter Barn, "The Christmas Bunny."We live out of state (in Georgia) and always request to make a visit no matter what time of year.

My daughter (4 years old at the time) and I visited the Critter Barn along with her preschool class. It really was a great experience for her. There is a nice variety of farm animals and the teachers really did a nice job educating the kids. Being that I grew up on a dairy farm, and now I am a suburban dweller, I appreciate getting my kids some good, old farm education.

Wonderful place for kids to get a "hands on'" experience with the farm animals. The Critter Barn is well run by both professionals and student volunteers. It teaches kids of all ages about farm life and crops in a nice, safe setting. Visit their website for information and pictures. Our grand kids ages 5-13 love visiting the Critter Barn when they come to visit. I highly recommend this fun, educational experience!

My city kids love our annual Trip to the farm with grandma and their cousins. The hands on interaction with the farm animals attracts us year after year. This years surprise was free admission! The kids took turns milking a goat too. All of the volunteers and staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. Keep up the good work!

My two grandchildren (9 and 6 years old) loved out trip to the Critter barn. We watched a great demonstration of a trained pig doing tricks. Our grandchildren handled some baby chicks. Just a fun place for the whole family.

What an outstanding place for preschoolers to touch and hold ducklings, chicks, newborn lambs, pigs, bunnies, and cats! We visited during the Spring Fling, and my grand daughter could not have had a better time for two great hours. And it's free!
