Manistee county is a police state county. There are 6 different forms of law enforcement so you can't do anything in manistee county without cops breathing down your neck. Had 2 different encounters with off duty police officers; 1st got road raged by a state cop yelling and swearing at me over a plastic bag and 2nd cop wouldn't identify himself though he wasn't shy about flashing his badge when he forced his way into my door. Beware of manistee county, don't even drive through it!

I was in Ludington on a business trip accompanied by my wife. We took time to visit the Manistee River at High Bridge road it was very quiet and just what we needed to recharge.

We spent a great afternoon salmon fishing with Terry from 5-19 At Ease River Charters. My wife landed her first salmon and we ended up with six nice fish. This is a beautiful river with an abundance of wildlife.

We spent a day Canoeing with a group on the Manistee River. It is definitely the best way to see the river and a lot of fun

Beautiful riverfront gazebo with hillside seating area. Very scenic areas along the boardwalk. The City of Manistee Marina Rental provided a beautiful area for pre-wedding details. BIG last minute DISSAPOINTMENT was NO parking and a half block walk to facility due to an annual festival. The contract implied that we had street front parking which was not the case

I am a semi-regular visitor to this area and love the river. Watching the boats and people on the river walk is one of my husband and I's favorite activities a couple of times a year. We have met some wonderful people along the walk and out on the breakwalls.

We moored our boat at the Municipal Marina which is excellent. There is a lovely river walk which takes you through the town. Several of the restaurants are on the river- we dined at 3 of them Blue Fish, TJs Pub, and the Boathouse Grill- all were good. Watch dozens of fishing boats going back and forth all day and a great variety of sail boats and cruisers- a lovely spot.

From downtown you can pick up the river walk for a couple of miles all the way to the lighthouse if you so choose. We did it on a bright, sunshiny Saturday before lunch. It works up an appetite. it is very well done and very well maintained. it varies from concrete to boardwalk. you get to admire the river and pass all the boats moored along the way. The charter boats were out discharging their catches, gutting and cleaning the fish. It was all very interesting. And, for us, our first chance to see Lake Michigan up close instead of from a speeding car or a high flying aeroplane. We couldn't think of a better way to spend an hour, a river walk, a bit of exercise and a great lake.

We parked just past the archway on Main Street and walked down a driveway to catch the start of this lovely wooden walkway. It meanders along the river and all of the fishing charter boats. At times it brings you up to street level once past the downtown district, but sends you back to water level shortly. Nice historical markers along the route let you learn a little bit about the area as it was being settled. Supposedly there are 1/10th mile markers, but I only noticed one at the mile mark. We walked all the way out to the end of the pier and then back. A lovely way to spend an evening on this 3 mile round trip walk. There were a few joggers enjoying the trail as well, so be aware of those approaching from behind.

This riverwalk is just a little more than a mile long and starts at the House of Flavors ice cream shop (yummy) and ends at the 1st street beach. Charter boats line the river and if you are lucky a huge frieghter might even come through the channel. A few hotels/motels were in view as we walked along the river and several shops and restaurants are just to the left on the main drag in town. What is not to love with a riverwalk where you can sit outside and eat, or.... just drink a cold brew or enjoy a glass of wine, shop, and then walk the calories right back off! This is small town America at its very best! Fantastic!Enjoy!J.

A small town becoming alive again. Cute boutique shops along with antique stores, art gallery and a renovated theater showing first-run films.

Nice walk although you need to keep out of private areas. Walk from the bridge to the end is over a mile.

Nice sized sites, nice shower facilities, great beach. A lovely bluff overlooking our awesome Lake Michigan.

Incredible river walk that goes from downtown right out to a Lake Michigan lighthouse. Very enjoyable and very well maintained!
