The Cathedral is the second tallest academic building in the world. Go in, go up to the upper-most accessible floor, and peer out. The main floor is nice for a bit of studying.

This is a self-guided tour very pleasant and quiet to allow yourself to imagine what it was like in those classrooms so many years ago.

From the outside it looks like any other high-rise, but inside it couldn't be more unique. Gothic cathedral, I felt like I should be in a chapel vs. center for students of U PITT. A self tour of the 3rd floor of Nationalities was perfect. Parking proved to be difficult, research parking areas to avoid driving in circles searching for a elusive spot.

The various classrooms are designed in reference to the tradition of the homeland. The first floor rooms are the earliest to be designed and there is a fee to enter the rooms but worth the $. The 2nd floor rooms are more contemporary and free to enter. Great Gothic architecture.

I went to Pitt so the Cathedral will always bring back great memories. It's definitely my favorite building, inside and out!! There are lots of great nooks to study in on the first three floors. Worth a trip around Christmas time to see the decorations and sit by the fireplaces in the main room. The nationality rooms are also worth a look. And make sure you take the elevator up to the 36th floor for great views.

Literally I feel like I'm walking into Hogwarts. We did multiple film shoots in the Cathedral and it is a serial experience.

If you have any appreciation of architecture at all, you will love this building! It is 42 stories high and the main floor is has a beautiful, soaring, 4 story vaulted ceiling.Definitely a photo op, inside and out, so take advantage while you're there!

The Cathedral of Learning is a beautiful, towering presence on the Pitt Campus. There are "Nationality' classrooms that represent classrooms of different countries. The open areas feel like a giant, gothic cathedral, and the views are stupendous.

A great landmark in the middle of Oakland area that belongs to University of Pittsburgh. The national rooms are a visit by itself but remember to plan to visit when the rooms are open or even better take a guide tour.

Inside and out, this first building at the Univ of Pitts is a landmark in the city. Inside and out, surrounded by Heinz Chapel and the Stephen Foster Memorial Theaters - it is a real must see.

This building is fantastic. I grew up in North Oakland/Schenley Farms area on a hill overlooking the Cathedral. I saw it through the sunroom windows growing up and I still love looking at it today. It was designed by Charles Klauder (known for edu. buildings nationwide including Penn State, Penn, Princeton $ Cornell) and was started in 1926 with the first classes in 1931 and completed in 1934. Klauders design renders the cathedral with no two sides alike of the four sided structure. It is the tallest educational building in the western hemisphere, the second tallest edu. building in the world and the second tallest gothic-styled building in the world. The first and third floors house the Nationality classrooms. Each one of the 29 rooms ornately done in the style of the country it represents. I was privileged enough to have a French class in the Chinese room in the early 90's (seems kinda strange, no?).Guided tours are $4/adults & $2/kids. You can also tour them at your own at your leisure and guide books are available at the gift shop with all the info you could need in regards to the rooms. Architecture & history buffs & interior decorators, this one is a must see when you're in Pittsburgh. Its also a place where I take all visitors without question.

Hard to imagine the mind that thought of a classroom building that looks like a cathedral, but someone did and wow what an idea. Take an audio tour of the international classrooms - each is decorated in the style of a country. I particularly liked Austria, Hungary, Romania and Serbia-Damascus. If you can, take the elevator to the 36th floor to see the birdseye view of the city. Another must-see attraction in Pittsburgh.

If you are in Pittsburgh, this is a must see. Visit numerous "Nationality Classrooms" located on both the first floor encircling the cavernous Commons Room and on the third floor with great views of the gothic architecture, vaulted ceilings. Wander through for free, rent a self-guided audio at the desk, or arrange for a tour, largely conducted by highly trained student volunteers. These unique rooms are actually used for classes for University of Pittsburgh students, so be sure to peek in before entering each room. Take the elevator to the 36th floor for great views of the university and Pittsburgh. There is a food court with stations serving good food at reasonable prices. The Commons Room is straight from Harry Potter, so kids of all ages will be sure to love it.

Beautiful architecture outside, and great interior rooms dedicated to different countries. Good history of the construction; great views from top of tower.

Go here - go out of your way to go here. This is such an amazing place. My mom had been a hospitality tour guide in the 50's so we had an awesome time revisiting something familiar from her past.
