The Frick museum is a Pittsburgh Gem. They have wonderful exhibits and the mood is just perfect. Easy parking. Smaller crowds. A perfect place to take a date or friends to see some amazing collections of art.

What a way to start the holiday season. Try to schedule your tour around 5:00 p.m. so that you can enjoy the lights when it gets darker. The new visitor center was well worth a look. Don't forget to go to the Frick Art Museum and Car Museum...always an added bonus. Late lunch in the café (reservations highly recommended) was also a great way to enjoy this site.

Very cold day when we were there.The house was warm inside. A trip back to the guilded age. Lightly decorated for Christmas. House was very dark inside due to the lighting and the decor. Very knowledgeable docents.

We stopped on Dec. 30. The home tour required reservations. They were kind of stuffy staff. I have been to many historic homes. I would call this one over rated. Museum is nice and free.

My review only half counts, as I did not visit the Frick home, just the museum and greenhouse. There is a fee to tour the house and didn't book ahead or feel that it was potentially worth the money, but I certainly could be wrong. The museum was fine, small and had some interesting art, just depends on your taste and what you prefer. The greenhouse was also small and did not have much going on, half of it was spinach and arugula and things like that, which were probably planted strictly for the benefit of the on site cafe. Tried to eat at the cafe, but also small (sorry to be redundant) and could not be seated without a reservation, even in the middle of the afternoon. The car museum is currently closed for the next year or so due to remodeling. Overall it was a decent way to pass some time, but I would not go out of my way to plan a visit.

We loved the museum, principally because of the current exhibit, which was Charles Courtney Curran. His paintings and the history and stories behind them were fascinating and captivating. We happen to really enjoy his style and we spent a few hours in the several galleries which housed the exhibit. The remainder of the museum was also superb. The admission was free for this portion of the tour--an excellent value. As for Clayton (the homestead), the admission fee was about $11 person. There was a slight discount for AAA. The tour was very nice, possibly could have been a lesser entrance fee, but the funds are probably used for renovations, etc. so it goes to a good cause (let's hope). Our tour guide was very well versed, and there was a small enough group to be able to enjoy the tour. They do limit the # of people, so you have to call ahead. Tour is one hour long. Museum can be anywhere from 1-3 hours, depending on the exhibits and whether you like them or not.

I really enjoyed this museum and tour of the mansion. The museum while small, had a special exhibit of American Impressionist Charles Curran which was spectacular. The guided house tour was very informative and our guide was excellent.

Beautiful small museum. You can visit the house only if you pre-book your time. Took a cab from our hotel, easy enough, BUT when we tried to get a cab back, we waited over an hour and the cab never came to pck us up. Had to walk to a bus stop and bus it back. Very annoying for seniors....

This house embodies the opposite of Pittsburgh stereotypes. The classic grandeur of the house, coupled with the lovely open space of the grounds have no business being associated with an industrial city full of engineering college students. Our tour guide, Bunny, was incredibly knowledgeable about the house and family, and seemed to really love her job. Besides the house, the cafe serves a fantastic tea service with friendly servers in lovely surroundings. I highly recommend visiting this step back in time.

The five star rating is for the house, not the art museum. The art museum portion gets two stars. We went on a house tour, walked around the grounds and visited the art museum. The house was very interesting and our docent knowledgeable. You visit the first and second floors of the home and the tour lasts about an hour. A walk through the green house is especially interesting if you like gardening. The art museum collection was skimpy, especially because they were in between traveling collections. One entire room was religious paintings, so unless you are into that, you will be bored. But the art museum portion was free, so I wasn’t particularly disappointed. The house is definitely worth a visit. There is a cute little café on the grounds, but I can't speak to how it is.

I visited the museum and home of Henry Frick today. As a resident of tis region it was something I had not yet done. The museum had just received works from Curran. These were a treat to see. The rest of the museum was very pleasant $ quit nice. We walked to the shop and got tickets to get the house tour ( the museum was free!). The house tor was $10.00 and lasted about 45 minutes. It is a beautiful historically kept home. It was a treat to take the tour and see how Henry Frick and his family lived. I thou rightly enjoyed this part of the day trip( for me).

The art museum and grounds are free, and very good, but the hour-long guided tour of Frick's mansion, Clayton is well worth the$12. 90% original, containing amazing woodwork, fabrics, lighting and artifacts. Stunning features and well-preserved family home. A bit removed from other city attractions, but history/art/architecture fans should not miss it!

Clayton Hall has only 24 rooms but the interior uses very scare and expensive materials for the time...like aluminum on the ceilings (more expensive then than gold) Delightful gardens...well labeled. Carriage House; and cafe and art museum with works collected by Frick's daughter. Expert guides. Friendly staff. Lots of parking in a high end residential area.

Great for all the occasions - Wonderful little museum with nice exhibitions. Old cars museum is definitely worth visiting. Both places are free :) To visit a mansion there is small price. Very nice relaxed atmosphere in general and don't miss the cafe! I love their high tea time! Quite a gem in Pittsburgh!

Overshadowed by the better-known Frick Museum in NYC, the art and historical center is well worth a visit, mostly for what it conveys of the life a of a tycoon and his daughter, Helen, who was a collector and philanthropist who deserves to better known. The 1970 museum is a fine late example of Beaux Arts architecture. The permanent collection largely of interest to fans of Italian religious art. The mansion to me is the main draw--very lovingly restored.
