Chose to travel here from Indiana to see Gary Clark Jr rather than seeing him in the huge United Center in Chicago and I was not disappointed!! This place was full of character, guys at the door checking tickets/IDs were very nice and efficient, and the venue was great for seeing Gary! It provided a more personal experience and allowed the audience to be so close that you could see the intensity and joy on his face. Amazing artist, Incredible experience!

Had an opportunity to visit Mr. Smalls Funhouse for a Billy Bragg show on October 1st. Had never been to Mr. Smalls before and travelled from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh for the show. The venue is a renovated church. It would appear that they have removed the pews (sp?) and to open up the floor for a mostly standing room crowd. The Billy Bragg show was listed as "Partially seated" and this meant that there were about 5 rows of folding chairs in front of the stage that were first come/first served. They also had a VIP area in a balcony towards the back of the theater. We sat in the VIP section where they offered a light menu of most app type foods and a full bar. seating right on the rail with a great view of the stage. Well worth the upgrade cost.As mentioned, Mr. Smalls has a full bar in the VIP area as well as on the floor. Cost of food and drinks was fair in my opinion. Parking was easily available in the municipal lot across the. Street and I felt safe wandering around both before and after the show. The show was great and the sound was really good. The venue is small and provides you with a very intimate show. I would travel from Philly to see a favorite act here again. Please note that since we had never been to the venue again, my wife and Imthought that we would grab a bite to eat in Millvale before the show but there was NOTHING available in the area. If you want more then apps, eat before arriving for the show.
