This is 3 reviews in 1....my daughter had a softball tournament in the area so we along with another family decided to camp. First of all there are SO many campgrounds named "Castle Rock....." so we were confused. Our friends already booked a site at Castle Rock Resort. We had our eye on Castle Rock County Park because we know from past experience that state and county campgrounds are BEAUTIFUL, well maintained with big level sites. We wanted to camp with our friends so on the way up, we drove through C.R. Resort to check it out. The driveway [long road leading to the bar which is also their office(?)] was decent, old but clean. We explained that we wanted to check out the place before we book a site. No problem. WOW! What a dump!!! The roads are very narrow, trees too low and absolutely NO direction! We hauled our 27' trailer down a few of the "rows" that dead ended to the lake! So we had to painfully turn around. I knew what site our friends were on but there was no way we could find it...we were given no map and nothing made sense. After going down another narrow road, my husband said this is terrible, let's get out of here! We've been camping for 10 yrs and can honestly say this is the worst campground we've ever seen!!!! There is a reason why on their skimpy website they only have pictures of the office/bar! Thankfully for them they have faithful seasonal campers otherwise I don't know how they stay in business. I immediately called our friends telling them about it and that they should seriously rethink staying here (they have an even bigger camper). Thankfully the campground was cool about allowing them to cancel their reservation and not charging their credit card. We all went less than 10 mins up the road to Castle Rock COUNTY park - AMAZING! Beautiful place with TONS of pretty trees and pines, HUGE sites, no driving pad but we actually liked it because you can place your camper anywhere on the site. The only problem was there are not enough electric boxes, you share a box with your neighbor so hopefully one of you has a nice long cord OR can angle your camper enough. It wasn't an issue for our small group though. Each site has a picnic table and very nice, large fire pit. The beach is big and clean with tons of picnic tables and beautiful views. There are pit toilets throughout and shower buildings. There are a few older but nice playgrounds. The cost is only $19/night for an electric site!!! Also, if you don't feel like cooking one day/night, you must try Kozy's pizza literally 2 miles up the road!! YUMMMMMMMY! :o]

We recently camped at Castle Rock Park and are planning to go back again next summer. We camped in our tent with 4 children ages 9-11. The sites are very large, have electric device but no water. There is a water station by the one bath house. It was a very nice set up for camping. We were in Loop A and it was convenient to the bathroom and beach. The beach is large and our kids loved it. They especially loved swimming out to the floating raft. What I did not love was how GREEN the water is. Absolutely filled with algae. It will stain everything green. We actually saw a couple of green dogs while we were there! We are used to beaches but that is absolutely the worst I have seen. The campground staff and store is pretty dismal. Their website does not work because all of their broadband width had been used up even though it was only mid month. It was a hassle making a reservation with a gentleman who was not familiar with computers. They only have the campground staffed overnight on weekends. Beware that there is lots of loud partying that goes on. Do not expect the campground or sheriffs dept to do anything about it because they will not. Their store only sells wood, ice, and ice cream treats. Anything else and you'll need to make a trip into town.Castle Rock is a great boating and recreation lake. It's great to be able to camp and have a boat launch in the park. Make a trip across the lake and eat at Carlson's Rustic Ridge!

Just back for a few days camping in the park and boating on Castle Rock Lake. The campground was clean and well organized, not too terribly full. Pit toilets and a shower building, remember to bring some quarters for the showers. Easy in and out on the boat launch, and plenty of dining surrounding the lake. The lake is a flowage fed by the WisconsinRiver, so it's murky and tea colored, but otherwise a great time!

We stopped in to watch the triathlon taking place and visit with friends who participated. It is a beautiful park with a lot to do from a beach, volleyball, boat launch, and great sunsets. The staff was very nice and helpful when we asked how to find local attractions. The camp host has made the park beautiful with flower gardens around. We did not end up camping on this visit but plan on coming again.
