Who would have guessed what an important role Manitowoc played in winning the second world war?I found the historical aspects every bit as enjoyable as the items on display AND the submarine tour (of course.)What a wonderful area resource.

Awesome because of the submarine tour. Great people working there. The rest of the museum is just ok. Go for the submarine, your admission keeps the place open and history preserved.

My wife and I spent about half a day touring this musuem. We are land lubbers for sure, but we both found the museum interesting and would have stayed longer if it had been possible. The WWII sub is the star exhibit. I was like a kid in a candy store. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. It's a great salute to our WWII generation and to walk through an actual fighting submarine that sank enemy ships and suffered casualties was informative, interesting, and an honor.

A visit inside a WWII submarine is a MUST SEE when you come to Manitowoc, WI. The museum is terrific and first class. Exhibits fresh and well-maintained. Great gift shop, too. I visit inside the submarine made here in Manitowoc is one experience you cannot miss. How so many men lived in a sub will blow your mind. You will never forget your navigational, on the water sub adventure. Enjoy!

The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is a fantastic place to visit. This Smithsonian affiliated museum tucked away in the little town of Manitowoc is a real gem.

I think this is a unique museum, you won't find one like it! Very well put together and love the submarine tour.

I'm so glad my father told me about this museum, it was well worth the visit. The staff were very well trained from the front desk to the submarine guide. it is much bigger than what I expected, and very interesting. I especially enjoyed the videos throughout and the submarine tour. I highly recommend this museum to anyone!!! There are several floors, but elevators are available if you can't climb stairs, obviously the submarine is not wheelchair accessible. I would be sure to have a few hours available for the tour it can easily take close to 3 hours.

My teenage son and I loved this museum. It is right on the mouth of the river at Lake Michigan. The tour of the submarine was amazing - the tour guide had a very comprehensive knowledge of the submarine and she was super enthusiastic.

We really liked the different information, things the museum offered. Very informative and even offers interactive stations for kids. There is also a tour you can go on which is included in your cost. Worth the time to stop if your in the area.

You don't have to be a boater to enjoy this great museum! It took us about 3 hours to see everything including the submarine. Well presented displays and models give a great education with out being a boring museum. There is a kids area and most all of the displays would be enjoyable for all ages. Several videos and hands on exhibits also.

It's one of my daughter's favorite places to go. The museum itself does a great job showing the history of Manitowoc as both, a fishing village and as a village of many ship-wrights. The highlight is of course a tour of the USS Cobia. a well-preserved World War 2 Submarine. The engines do work, and the sub is floating in the river. During National Holidays, there have been former crew members hanging around sharing their experiences of life in the submarine. I was even lucky enough to be in the sub when they fired up one of the engines.

A great visit, could spend 3- 4 hours if you want. The Sub tour was awesome to say the least. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and excellent answering a variety of questions. May do it again next time in town.

The very informative tour of the submarine Cobia is a highlight of this museum visit, but there is so much more to see that visitors who have an interest in historic ship building, the fishing industry on the Great Lakes, Manitowoc's contributions to the U.S. submarine fleet in WWII and more, will want to allow plenty of time.

Just go! It was very interesting and the submarine tour is a MUST! I so admire those brave men. The other parts of the museum are also fabulous even if you aren't sure that you are interested in shipping, military or the history of the Great Lakes.

This is a significant museum especially in telling the history of the Great Lakes ship building industry. Part of that history is the building in Manitowac of 28 submarines for the Navy in WWII. Not only is a sub, the USS Cobia, tied to the building but tours are offered, There is a replica of a steam engine turning a huge set of propellers,. There are replicas of many ocean going vessels such that with sufficient time one can come to understand how vessels are made and how they changed over time.Numerous classes for youth and adults are offered.
