We stopped here and the kids threw rocks and swam. It was a good time and cool to see the rocks. Not much more to say, it's a beach with cool rocks instead of sand. Very nice though.

I was excited to see this beach because it is one of five places in the world where the conditions make round rocks. I was absolutely amazed that all the rocks were round. The water is crystal clear, and if I wasn't on Washington Island in late October, I would swear I was in the tropics due to the clear water. You defiantly need to put this beach on your list of things to see when you come to door county Wisconsin.

This is a secluded unique beach, due to the fact that the "beach" is actually composed of small, rounded stones (not pebbles!) about 3-5" in diameter. If you plan on swimming and sunbathing, bring your water shoes ( not essential, but it makes walking much more comfortable) and a heavy blanket or padding to put under your blanket, since the rocks are rather uncomfortable to lay on. Water is crystal clear, and can be a bit cold for those not familiar with Lake Michigan waters. Beautiful secluded park, usually not too many people during the week, but can be busy on weekends, since the actual "beach" itself is not that large. Kids loved swimming and skipping stones and swimming out to the raft kept them busy.

Really is clear water. Beautiful shoreline is lined with white pebbles. I believe the beach was just award a 'top beach' national award for the clearest water. Park has picnic and bathroom facilities.

Every time we take the ferry to Washington Island we have one destination that is a must and that is Schoolhouse Beach. Even if just for a few minutes, seeing the smooth stones that nature has created is amazing! Great spot for cookouts too!

This beach is covered in flat smooth rocks softened by the lapping of the waves. Not a comfortable place to sunbathe, but great for sitting and reflecting. Fun to skip the stones into the water. Signs posted everywhere however that the stones must stay at the beach - no souveniers!

Certainly worth the stop! Amazing round pebble beach! Very cool thing to see. Nice picnic area set up for families or friends getting together. Looks like they are building a pavilion too. If you're on Washington Island, make the stop!

We stopped here as part of the Cherry Train tour. The beach is made of rocks rather than sand - the rocks are dolomite and incredibly smooth. Beautiful clear water and views. Definitely worth a visit!

Mention beaches and most people picture sand. Not at Schoolhouse Beach. It's covered with unique, smooth rocks that have been tumbled in the waves. The rocks are not only on the beach but also extend out into the water. It's been said that Schoolhouse Beach is one of only five places like it in the world. For that reason, people are not allowed to take rocks from the area and there is a fine for anyone attempting to do so. Upon our recent visit, we noticed that a new shelter was being built near the beach area.

We have visited this beach before when we take the Ferry over to Washington Island. It has a swimming raft which is great for good swimmers to go out to. No life guard on duty so I would recommend for strong swimmers only. Very pretty views of the lake.

Stopped her on the tram tour from the island. Learned a lot about the history and makeup of the stones on the beach. Very unusual stones all over. Great view. Check out the sign posted just before the beach with the history and explanation of things.

The sun baked warm pebbles and the clear water will make you forget all your worries in life. Its definitely a sight to behold.

While this was cool, it wasn't worth the $53 for us to take a ferry and travel by car to spend a whopping 20 minutes. It was pretty and neat with all the smooth rocks (and wonderful that we weren't there in the middle of summer when it would probably would have been crazy crowded), but again, I don't feel it was that big a deal. Sorry.

Loved the soft, water-polished rocks and the waves crashing there are just amazing. It was a little too cold and windy to enjoy swimming, but they do have set-ups for charcoal grills and bathrooms if you just want a picnic.
