sod house museum complex

While on a cross country road trip we stopped here to see the Midway USA sign. Next to the sign is a locomotive the kids can play on and some neat pieces of old farm equipment that are fenced in. We stopped during their noon lunch break so we couldn't go inside the musuem but the photo stop with the sign was neat enough.

An unexpected pleasure in the middle of Kansas. Kinsley is one of those sleepy little Kansas towns. A lot more items in the museum than one would expect. i would recommend visiting the museum with an old farmer who can explain about all the equipment and gadgets in the museum.

sod house is a 1957 reproduction of the type that were common in the 1800's in teh area. It is housed indoors with many artifacts from teh era. the person working the desk was very friendly and informative.train to climb on outside for kids, along with some great vintage playground equipmentgreat photo op with sign out front that states you are exactly midway between san francisco and NYprice was free - or donations. well worth a stop

This won't be the best review I ever write but fun nonetheless. I had some business in Kinsley and as I was leaving, I saw a sign staring right at me. The sign had an arrow pointing to the west and an arrow pointing to the east. The west pointing arrow said, San Francisco 1561 Miles. The east pointing arrow said, New York 1561 Miles. Midway USA.It just seemed like one of the coolest places to be - literally the middle of the country. I don't know why this struck me as a "must stop" but I had to stop and take a picture. There are other things at this site other than the sign - a train, some tractors, farm equipment and the like. However, for me, the sign was a big draw.
