dalton defenders museum

It is amazing what you can learn when you travel. When making plans to visit this place, I would recommend going on the weekend around October,5. They have street vendors, live music, car show, and the reenactment of the events that happened with the Dalton Gang. They honor the heroes that died saving their town.

This is an excellent museum! We saw Native American relics, lots of western memorabilia of the area and full-size horse drawn hearst with coffin inside. Quite impressive for a small town museum! We also went to the Chamber of Commerce that is located in one of the original banks involved in the shoot out. We had a guided tour by a lovely young lady who was very well informed about her town. It is really refreshing to see people who are so proud of their city! If you are in the area, stop in, you won't be disappointed!

Not bad for a small town museum. Was disappointed that a lot of the items are just local history (which was interesting) as we were expecting more about the bank robbery, and history of the west. Still worth the stop though.

We were a little leery about this being another way to glorify the bad guys, but instead the museum turned out to be exactly what it said -- it was about the defenders of the town much more than the Dalton Gang. The video was interesting, and the docents were all well-informed.

This is a must see museum! It's not a huge fancy museum but it is packed with memorabilia from days gone by. The museum tells the story of the Heros that defended the little town of Coffeyville from bank robbers, The Dalton Gang. The price is super affordable and the staff are the nicest people you will ever meet. We spent the night before our trip to Coffeyville doing some online searches for information about The Dalton Gang and that made it even more interesting when we got there. The museum even has a collection of antique items from towns people. If you are in the area or driving through it is definitely worth a quick stop.

They don't have a lot of western memorabilia at this museum but the history was awesome. We stopped by the chamber of commerce and were pleasantly surprised to be given a guided tour of the restored vault and bank recreated to look like the Bank of Coffeyville that was one of the banks the Dalton brothers attempted to rob. She was so pleasant and friendly and gave us a guided tour and was happy to answer our questions. Make sure to stop by the bank when you go to the museum.

My wife an i went to this little museum as a day trip from our home. The staff was friendly and kind. Its hard to give an honest review cause i dont wanna spoil any of the surpises that they have inside the building. but i would deffintly recomend this little place to any body thats a history buff or that just likes to look at cool old things. and for the cost it wasnt that bad at all. i think it took my wife an i cloe to 30 35 minutes to look at every thing. we never felt rushed or hurried about like some museums do. the staff was happy to answer any questions we had. they offered us a video that was made about the event but we declined it as we had other things to do that day. im still glad i took the time to go look at what was available though. i would also recomend the following of the hoof prints as well it add to the total experience.

This is a small-time museum centering around the infamous Dalton gang bank robbery in Coffeyville, Kansas. There were two other couples in the museum when my wife and I went in. Like all museums we went quietly through each of the exhibits, reading the tags and from time to time talking with the one of the hosts. The hosts were very pleasant. The museum is full of some very interesting artifacts, many from the Dalton gang themselves, but most from that era. We sat down with one other couple and their two children (probably ages 10 and 13) to watch a video on the Dalton gang. Soon into the film a family with two younger children came in and the peace was over. The little girl was yelling, screaming and crying then entire time. Both her mother and father were screaming at the kids and as a consequence none of us could hear the movie. The other family left first and we followed shortly behind. It was not the museums fault that they were invaded by some very rude people that cared less about anyone else there, except for the fact that they could have asked the children (and parents) to lower their voices while the movie was playing. We may have to return when its not so noisey as we did not get through either the video or the back part of the museum.

Enjoyed the Dalton Defenders museum very much. The hosts are so friendly and helpful. Following the hoof prints around the scene of the famous Dalton Gang bank robbery really gives you a feel for the excitement of that day. Defiantly visit Coffeyville, Ks.

Mostly concentrating on events surrounding an infamous failed bank robbery, this is a first rate small town museum. The staff was extremely informative and helpful. After you're done, be sure to walk over to the Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce and view one of the banks that was robbed, restored to its 1890s flavor. A must see for enthusiasts of the old west. All the six-shooters you could ever want to see!

Very interesting place to visit, lots of things to see beyond the part that deals with the Dalton raid. The couple that was there when I visited were very knowledgeable and made the visit much more enjoyable. Would recommend a visit here to anybody who travels to Cofeyville.

Dalton museum,on Oct. 5,1892 the Dalton gang tried to rob two banks at the same time. In the gang were Grant, Bob, and Emmett Dalton, Bill Power and Dick Broadwell. They entered two banks, they were recognized. The citizens armed themselves to confront the bandits and the battle began, eight men died including 4 of Coffeyville's defenders. The museum has some mementos from that raid.

This museum is very cool. There are a ton of authentic artifacts from the raid and the history of the town of Coffeyville. This town is very serious about its history and this place is a great tribute. This is a must see for anyone interested in gunfighters, American West, American history, trainrobbers / bankrobbers and the like.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Dalton Defenders Museum. Interesting artifacts and info, not just about the Dalton gang and the town's defense, but about the local area and its history. Lots of fun.

History that i thought was interesting. Nice getting to see history in other states. Great place for kids to learn history about Coffeyville, KS.
