As someone who grew up in Taos New Mexico, I can attest to the long held grudge as to why so many of the most noteworthy paintings done by Taos Society of Artists members are in Indianapolis, Indiana. But that is water over the bridge, and I can't imagine that any collector in New Mexico would have built such a stunning museum to house the collection Mr. Eiteljorg amassed over his lifetime of Western Art. The facility os perfect for the collection it hods and the many special exhibits it sponsors. even though I live in Chicago, I have belonged to this museum in order to sup[port its efforts to keep these works of art on display. The location of the museum is perfect for a day museum hopping.

We were here this last weekend for 4 hours. Incredibly well spent. Fine fine fine exhibit of Western Art and also am excellent traveling show featuring the California gold Rush. Do not miss if you are in the area.!

We had some time before we had to travel home and I read some reviews about this place so we checked it out and were glad that we did. While we don't know much about western art, we had seen enough Remington and Russell pictures through the years to be intrigued and there are definitely pieces of their art to be seen, the museum offers so much more really. If you are a fan of Native American art or are just curious then don't miss a trip through this place. For me personally I wish there would have more Georgia O' Keeffe and Ansel Adams pieces to view. This place is somehting that doesn't come along every day at least for us, so we are very pleased we opted to take the time to visit.

Not to be missed if you live in or visit downtown Indy! Marvelous collection of western art including an impressive collection of paintings and sculptures by Remington. The thoughtfully assembled and presented regional and contemporary Native American Indian artifacts and art.Although we didn't dine in the café, we spent a good amount of time perusing the offerings of the gift shop and found an equally impressive array of offerings at all price points--I could see that being a great place to pick up unique gifts with regularity if I lived in the area.Definitely recommend for all ages--a wonderful respite providing a feast for the soul!

This is a wonderful museum of the art depicting the American Southwest and the culture of first nations of this country. We ate in the museum cafe and the food and service were excellent. Highly recommend

I'm not the biggest western fan, but the exhibits are worth the stop, interesting & artful, the venue is quiet and comfortable.

If you can plan to visit during the holidays when they have the trains on display it is well worth your time. Have visited with my husband, my sister and her grandkids and attended a charity event - enjoyed each time we went. Great native american museum.

the Eiteljorg never disappoints. Whether we go in the summer and enjoy the Georgia O'Keefe works, the Frederic Remington's or new, current works, we are enthralled. But during the Christmas Season, the Eiteljorg rolls out an extraordinary treat: Jingle Rails - an enormous train display that includes Indianapolis sites as well as Yosemite, old Faithful, the Golden Gate Bridge, even Mount Rushmore. It's all there.

What a wonderful Museum. Beautifully lit with displays that artfully contain artifacts, art and culture. The flow allows you to set your own pace through the displays and their commitment to Indian culture is fantastic. I love the peaceful feel of this Museum.

We had a few hours to kill before our flight and found the musuem great. We enjoyed all of the native american and western artists. The history exhibits on the upper floor are very informative. We had lunch at the cafe and the food was wonderful. Great homemade soups.

Great historical museum. Even if you are into Art, this shows a great amount of history. Place is super clean and well kept. Their Train Tracks built for the holiday season are just amazing. Our main reason was to see that and it was so wonderful.

The Eitlejorg Museum in downtown Indianapolis is a real jewel in the city. If your special interest is Native America/First Nations art I would suggest waiting to come to the Museum in June (check date) when there is a Native American Art show, which is pretty spectacular. The museum itself isn't large, but it has a good collection and there is an excellent gift shop with reasonably priced authentic items.

The winter model train section was still setup and running and we could not believe how detailed it was.The Indian exhibit had some paintings that were amazingly detailed. There was painting of a swimming buffalo that you could see the hairs on top of its head and the water it was swimming in was very accurate.
