This lake is so large there is almost always something going on somewhere on the lake. The fishing is good, and there are quiet areas for those learning to paddle board or kayak to enjoy and not feel like they are in the way of the boats.

Visiting my daughter at Davidson College we enjoyed and relax sailing on this amazing lake.. We took a small cruise where we got information about the lake and the surroundings and got spectacular pictures. Love it.

First of all I am not a promoter or seeking financial gain by glamorizing the "Lake". Moreover, I could live in many places and I am pleased and proud that Lake Norman is my home for many reasons. With approximately 600 miles of shoreline bordering 4 different counties it offers an array of fun things to do for residents and visitors alike. Boating, water sports, fishing, swimming, restaurant going are just few of the attributes that contribute to the high quality of life. With its convenience to Charlotte, Charlotte's airport, Mooresville (Race City USA), Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville the Lake is a centerpiece of a Mecca. On the flip side perhaps I should not tell the story selfishly speaking.

Sailing around Lake Norman this past summer was so nice and relaxing. Delicious lake front restaurants, friendly folks and just an all around good time!!

I have a sailboat at Lake Norman Sailing club and go up at least every other week. Summer weekends are tough with all of the power boaters so it is best to be out on the water before noon or after dinner on the weekends. (seems the rude power boaters don't wake up til noon). Money is tight and I was surprised that the sailing was as economical as it is. Due to economy or waning interest in sailing you can get a used sailboat that you can overnight for a weekend for less than $2,500. The slip fees to keep it in the water can be less than $2,000/ year. In my case I have a place to stay on the lake for whenever I want for about $120/ month. I need to buy about 2 gallons of gas a year. So much for the lake being limited to rich people!!

Stay away fron the rental agency "vacations on Lake Norman.com" they rent you old towels and sheets that are threadbare. There is not even toilet paper in the rentals. The rentals are smelly and antiquated. I have never rented a house that did not have at least one roll of toilet paper. And renting sheets and towels, what a rip off. Then they retsin ypur security for leaving catsup in the refrigerstor. If you run out of propane on the grill you are expected to get it refilled! They ignore you if you run out! Look elsewhere.

Lake Norman was the reason I moved to NC. It is so beatiful. Lots to do if you have a boat. 13 waterfront restaurants and bars accessible by boat. South Lake Norman has lots of areas that boater anchor up together - The Sand Bar, Sunset Beach and Pinapple Island. Also the Duke Power Plant offers free concerts accessible by boat. There are several places to rent boats if you don't have access to one. One that I know of is Kings Port Maria in Cornelius.

On a hot summers day and as a tourist to Charlotte, we fancied a nice cooling swim in a lake and therefore headed off towards Lake Norman State ark. There is only area of the lake to swim in and therefore as you can imagine it is very popular. Therefore, its not surprising to note that it can get extremely congested in the afternoon so I recommend for a quieter sunbath / swim you get there for the morning sun. There is a small charge $5 adults and $4 children aged 3-12. They do provide changing rooms / showers and lockers. Also, for piece of mind Lifeguards are on duty both on the beach & in the water. The swing area is cordoned off. However, Lake Norman State Park offers more than a swim, it has family camping, boat rentals (not available 2014) and picnic shelters, all have costs associated with them.Note: there is a large number of steps to be taken if you take a direct route from the changing room area to the beach but there is also a gradual sloping winding pathway down to the beach.

We rented a pontoon boat for 4 hours. Had so much fun swimming and cruising the lake. We went out with a group of 7 people, and we all agreed that 4 hours is plenty of time.

I was looking forward to going to Lake Norman as I love lakes. It is not what you would expect for vacation or relaxation, it is rather more of a residential area. There is a state park and Jetton Park which I both visited, lots of boat ramps and pretty not much for tourists, except shopping and restaurants unless you spend most your time on a boat. However, honestly even if you are a boat person there are places that are more fun than this.

Maybe it's just not my thing but in my opinion, the lake is gross. Also, the life guards are rude. Like I said, maybe it's because I'm used to the beach but I don't know..

We bought a condo on the like and are enjoying the beautiful views and quiet reflections. It is wonderful to sit on a bench and gaze at the water. We enjoy watching the water sports on the lake as well as the quiet fisher people.

Very crowded. Drunks on their pontoon boats have zero regard for human safety in smaller water craft.Over rated place to be.
