Dan Nicolas is the place to take the family for a hike in the woods, Geocaching, playground, camping, or a birthday party in one of the shelters. Activities like riding a paddle boat or the miniature train, playing putt putt, or strolling through the little zoo cost a small fee. A nice nature center & gem mining are also on site. So glad Rowan has a great place like this for family fun.

So neat, and so many things to do. Very affordable. I do wish they stayed open a little later. I would go here much more often but its about an hour and a half away. The paddle boats are great. This place makes for an awesome one day mini-vacation.

The park has a merry-go-round and train for kids to ride. There is a small zoo with rescued animals. You can fish , feed ducks or go for a paddle boat ride. There are trails to walk, grills to cook on,on and playgrounds with appropriate ages listed for the children. The park rangers and attendants are very helpful, you can fill a whole day at the park.

Campgrounds are clean and neat. Lots to do in the park. Very nice yet not too far from Salisbury and other accommodations.

This is a great asset to Rowan County. It is a great place for family gatherings, covered picnic shelters or open tables. There is a mining shed, a wildlife area, paddle boats, fishing, a nature center, petting zoo, carousel, miniature train, camping, miniature golf and more.. So much for a family to enjoy. Each year Autumn Jubilee is held the first weekend of October. Thousands attend, there are crafts of all kinds, food, and entertainment. It is well worth a visit.

My family and I love to take trips to Dan Nicholas. I have a 17,12 and two 7 yr old twins. There is something there for all ages. My 17 yr likes to play putt putt and ride the paddle boats. My son loves when we play baseball and kickball at the fields. I can never get my twin girls off the playground and the carousel. My husband and I love to take walks around the lake and enjoy time with each other in God's beauty.

This Park has something for everyone. It has a wonderful park area for older and younger children. There is a section for small children separate from the older ones. There are a couple of attractions - carousel, train ride, mining, paddle boats, mini golf. They have a very small petting zoo - animal display area. During the summer they have a water splash section for the children to play in. There are nice hiking trails. All in all a lot to do for families and dogs. Does get a little crowded during the summer months.

This park is great fun for little kids! We take our nieces and nephews every time they are in town visiting! There is a splash pad, a little train, a merry go round, mini golf, treasure hunting, picnic tables, and lots of open spaces to play and have fun. The cost of the "attractions" is minimal and pay-as-you-go, so you can choose to spend as much or as little as you want. I recommend this park to anyone who wants a full day of fun out of a week trip to the area!

My husband and I took our two grandkids to the park during this past summer. We were absolutely amazed at the different things to do and so cheap. Our grandkids call this the "special park" and ask to go there during every visit to see us. It's nice to still be able to find something affordable to take children to and so nice and clean. Everyone that works there has been pleasant and friendly.

Camped here last weekend for 3 nights, spots are very roomy. Have to say probably one of the best places we have stayed especially with so much to do. Weather was cold and rainey one day, but a warm weekend would be great with the train ride, zoo, water park, paddle boats etc. My grand kids loved the zoo and play ground, carousel, and train. Look forward to coming again in spring or summer.

We enjoyed our stay at the campground, it's a very family friendly campground! My only complaint is that we didn't know which way to drive into the park so that we would be facing the right direction to back in our RV. My husband did his first 3 point turn in an RV :) Bath houses were very clean, and there were so many amenities. We enjoyed playing tennis, and spent an afternoon at the park playing mini golf and riding paddle boats. You will have people walking through your campsite if you are close to a bathhouse, even though signs clearly say not to. All in all, it's a great campground for families!

This is a terrific, family-friendly park and campground about one hour from Charlotte, NC. Well worth the drive, especially if you have young children, and admission is free. The park is about 8 miles from the NC Transportation Museum, which is also worth a visit. Dan Nicholas Park is large and scenic and has nice hiking trails through the woods and around the lake. One loop we like is 2.4 miles. It was nice to leave the city and find this retreat into nature. The park also has a 10-acre lake with paddle boat rentals ($2, I believe). You can also fish at the lake or just stop by and feed the ducks or look for turtles. The park has many interesting attractions for kids including a gem mine, train, carousel, petting zoo, reptile house and miniature golf course. There’s also a splash park open in summer. Most of the attractions have a very nominal fee, typically $1. There is a large playground with sections for very young children as well as older kids. The park is also a great place for the kids to bring their bikes. The park has tennis courts and sports fields as well. There are some concessions available for purchase: popcorn, slushies and the like, but of course, you can bring your own picnic and snacks. Shelters can be rented in advance. We have a 5-year-old and had such wonderful day at this park. One thing to note: visiting this park will involve a lot of walking. We look forward to returning.

we stayed here 3 nights and 4 days in campground, and all I can say is we had made the right decision of choosing the placed. The lake/pond is just couple feet away in where you can fish all you want...with my 3 yr old little boy, he had fun feeding the ducks, and go biking around the park/trail. We had tried most of the attractions(paddle boat is fun) This is very nice place for family getaway, specially a family with kids. The parks has a lots of things or attractions can offer , with a tiny bucks(cheap) but it brings a lots of fun - so loving this placed. SUre to come back gain and again...
