I hiked to the top of King's Pinnacle at Crowders Mountain State Park. We took the orange trail up 2.2 miles to the top and we took the longer, but easier white trail down. The fantastic view from the top is well worth the hike up! From the top, it is possible to see the Appalachian mountains to the west, as well as all of the surrounding forest and land. Looking down into the woods, especially in winter time and seeing the different types and densities of trees was neat. The orange trail up takes you through a fun boulder field. Tons of dogs, but I had no issue with them, all but one were leashed and the lone unleashed dog wasn't interested in humans. I am definitely going to do this trail again in the spring and summer!

30-40min away from downtown Charlotte. Good to get out for a couple hours and get outside. Can get very crowded here, and many, many dogs around. Good places for Rock Climbing. Decent hike, nothing extreme, a solid amount for anyone from kids to grandma. Have been here many times. You can see the skyline of Charlotte off in the far distance on the horizon. Closest hiking to the city without going 1.5-2 hrs out.

We tried Backside trail to the top of the mountain and Crowders trail to come back to the parking. It was a perfect distance hiking course for a family with young kids and we all enjoyed it. After waiting for 10 minutes to find a parking spot, we enjoyed the hike and view. I saw some runners while we were hiking and I think it is a good running course as well.

This is a beautiful state park that is well maintained and well ran. The people of King's Mountain are friendly and very helpful and welcoming to travelers. We had many beautiful photos of the park, even though it was raining that day. The town is peaceful and has a lot of interesting history. We do wish we had stayed at a better hotel. The Quality Inn was a terrible experience. We will visit this park again though and explore other places in Kings Mountain. We were running a 10K race there and the course was great. The town also has many great places to dine.

If you're looking for a variety of trails, panoramic views and a little excitement with rocks... This is the park for you!Keep in mind there are some treacherous trails and accidents have happened here so be careful and enjoy a great outing.

My boyfriend and I did Crowder's as a day date. Great short hike. It was beautiful with the fall colors still plentiful! A great getaway from the busy city bustle.

Great local hike, close to york, clover, lake wylie, fort mill, rock hill, and charlotte. Its family friendly and ive seen lots of kids go up these trails. People of all athletic ability can hike these trails. It may get strenuous at times but its managable. One of the trails, and I know it was off of Crowders some where, there is a LOT of steps that lead to the outlook. That would be the only concern if you have bad knees and cant climb lots of steps..

Crowder's Mountain is my go to place for a nice hike without having to do a long drive from Charlotte. We usually go to the Linwood entrance (eastern side) and take the backside trail to the stairs. Its about a rather steep mile to the top from the parking lot. The view from the top is nice but not spectacular.

Easy drive from Charlotte. Our whole family, including our goldend retreiver, enjoyed the hike. We took the Back Side trail. Take plenty of water.

My friend and I LOVED this park and trail. So clean and well-maintained, polite visitors and challenging trail. We were here August 23rd- it was 95 degrees out and because of the shady coverage it didn't feel so hot. The views are insane- could not believe this is 30 minutes from where I live. We will be back!

Incredible! And great to be able to see the mountains (Kings Moutain too) daily. So relaxing and breathtaking. I wasn't able to hike but plenty of space for walking, picnicing or watching the kids play.

With such a close proximity to Charlotte, it is a fantastic place to just get out and go for a couple of hours. The area and the hike/mountain itself are great. My only complaint would be two things:1.) VERY crowded with people who sadly as always, leave trash around.2.) kids running wild everywhere screaming at the tops of their lungs3.) my favorite- too many dogs. There are dogs everywhere pooing and peeing on everything and some of which are running around wild. People continue to fail to maintain control of their animals as their are "designated 'family' members now," but get real people. Keep the dog on a short leash if you truly feel compelled to take Fluffy the bleach white poodle into the mountains... (of which i did see, and the owner was carrying it the whole time to not get its fur dirty....)

We did take the trip and it was just beautiful and so relaxing. One would need to just take their time and see all the wonderful views. We all were just amazed.
