Travelling to Sturgis South Dakota one year I stayed at the local motel. I heard of these two attractions at the end of Main street. Both are really well done and worth visiting. The history of the town itself is very interestingReal Freynet Manitoba Canada.

Drove by this while looking for a hotel, what a neat surprise. Fun place to walk around, would have liked to gone to the museum but left town before it opened. Don't miss it, it's very unique!!

We have passed through Lemmon many times, but this was our first stop at the Petrified Wood Park. It is phenomenal. We enjoyed strolling through it.

This was one of the most interesting things we saw on our trip. Take a moment and walk back in time.

Never seen anything like it before. It was a wonderful experence. And I would suggest this a have to see place. Very close to the Lemmon Country Inn where I stay. Wonderful place to sleep.

I liked seeing the petrified wood. The museum was really interesting. As a bonus got to hear the tornado siren being tested as I left.

Really neat park that you can picnic at or walk your dogs. I went around 6 or 7pm. Made for beautiful pictures but the mosquitoes were insane. It's free & right off the highway. No reason not to stop & check it out.

I am sure most people have never heard of this place, but...it is one of those never to be forgotten experiences. The attraction is free, and right in the town.. Take a lunch or just plan on spending about 1 hour or so, walking through the paths of stacked petrified wood. Its like going back in time, although it does bring the image of the 'Flintstones.' With the tables made of the petrified wood, and the cannonball stones, from the Cannon Ball River . And then the museum which is right there also. Indoors and full of not only history of the park, but dinosaur relics that people have found on their properties in the area. A Triscerotops, turtles, lots of leaves and fish. All preserved in stone. And a small gift shop, with items that you can purchase. There is also another museum on the highway, with a metal artwork dinosaur, too. See the guy sitting in his walker outside the place. He and his wife run that one. Just as interesting...

If passing through you should stop. All the petrified wood and fossils are from the area. One mans efforts to preserve the areas history. The Museum is only open Memorial day thru Labor day. It is full of antiques from locals and paint a picture of the areas past including early settlers. The man overseeing was very knowledgable. Gift shop also has some jewelry made locally. It is a nice place to stretch or picnic.

The Petrified Wood Park is a park with cone-like sculptures made from petrified wood, which is abundant in the area. It is a short drive off of Highway 12 and a nice stop if you want to get out of the car for a bit. It is a nice park for kids and adults. There is also a museum there that is interesting.

Some years ago I was driving US 12 from Seattle to Minneapolis and just happened to be going through Lemmon, SD. When I saw the large sign on the highway for the park, I just had to see what it was about - and it was amazing. An entire block filled with objects made from petrified wood, along with a museum and memorabilia of the Yellowstone Trail.Last month, my wife accompanied me and we stopped - and the museum was open (usually I go through in September - the museum is only open through Labor Day). It has a very nice collection of items well displayed. It's worth an hour or two.
