Anytime we are out for a drive or ride in the general area of Hill City we make the stop at Prairie Berry. Tastings are free, small, but free. The wines are good, pick your favorite, then grab some cheese and sit on the patio. Enjoy the smells, the sun, and of course your wine and cheese. Always check to see if they have Heritage available, one of the best wines they ever produced.

The title says it all... free wine tasting. Done and done. You get to pick 5 of the wines on their wine list to sample for free. They have a very wide selection, so you're sure to find something that you enjoy! Plus, they are always adding new wines.Make sure to try the food there too! It's delicious. I had the lunch special (half a sandwich and a bowl of soup) and it was amazing! The people there are really friendly. We've been there many times and have a wonderful experience each time.

We stopped in because the Rhubarb wine on their billboard sounded so good. They have a tasting bar and we tried the wine. It is mixed with Raspberry and it was delicious! We bought instantly! We tried a few others which were all good but after the Rhubarb, everything else was a step down. Great, friendly place. I highly recommend.

Staff was very friendly. This would have been a nice place for lunch, but we just stopped in for the wine. We were attracted by the billboards in the area that advertised a Rhubarb wine with a funny name. We had to check it out. This wine was awful, but I enjoyed the sweet whites and bought a few bottles.

When in Hill City, stop by and try the wine and delicious food at Prairie Berry. They have a great variety of wines to purchase and food the is amazing. The creativity of the cooking staff is terrific. The views from the patio, along with a glass of wine and delicious food, allow you to get lost in the hills.

Stopped here for lunch with a friend. Later did a wine tasting. These wines surprised me. My favorite is the RedAss. The server started out a bit snippy but when she figured out we were buying she was nice. We bought 5 bottles between us and called it a day. If you go in the Summer, late Spring or early Fall you can eat outside on the patio. Nice views.

I visit Prairie Berry every time I'm heading to my gramma's house in Deadwood, SD. Discovered it by accident a few years ago but definitely glad I stumbled upon it! They have local flavors and a nod to SD culture featuring local heroes and landmarks on their bottles. It's fun to not only learn about the wine, but then to learn about the people featured such as Calamity Jane after you leave the winery.Prices are incredibly reasonable and the staff are friendly and more than ready to answer your questions! Next time I'm there I'm stopping by the brewery next door!

Interesting wines from berries and fruit other than grapes. They currently (October 2014) have a delightful pumpkin-flavored wine that is good at room temp and even better mulled!

In a beautiful setting, this winery offers an assortment of fruit and traditional wines. The kicker is that they have a number of excellent and unique wines: Rhubarb, for example. And that wine is fantastic. Also, the CrapApple was pretty delicious. These wines are interesting, they aren't your average boring pinots and sauvignons (somebody got creative!!!). If you like drinking less boring wine, I'd try this place. The tasting experience was wonderful, our taster was knowledgeable and, better yet, interested in helping us! Courteous staff and a REALLY nice location and facility.

On route 90 there are many billboards for this winery, but I didn't find the wine to be up to the expectation. I have to admit that I come from the wine district of the Finger Lakes and undoubtedly have a bias. They had many people visiting when we were there and the staff was out numbered by those looking for a taste.

Prairie Berry was filled with guests the day we visited. Yet we were greeted sincerely at the door, asked if we had visited previously, and if we would like to participate in tasting a variety of their current wines, or just browse. Prairie Berry's wine tasting process was explained, and our questions graciously answered as we tasted our selections. They advised which wines they believed were best paired with which meals or meats, and then left us to discuss among ourselves if we actually liked any of them.We found Prairie Berry's Customer Service to be excellent for the novice guest. We have always been intimated by wineries, feeling more comfortable tasting chocolate (or beer). Prairie Berry was friendly, gracious, well informed about their product, and let us browse without pressure following our tasting. We purchased several bottles (which we did enjoy at home) and would recommend them to anyone usually steering clear of wine tastings. We found their wine delightful and their guest services sincere.

I grew up in wine country, Colorado and have been to wine tasting in Napa, Ca and France. I love dry reds, and this place has none. Their wines tasted too young, could use a few more years in the casks. Hoping that they get better, but South Dakota has sweet red wine tastes, so I doubt they will develop the dry wines. Great selection of cheeses, great little store, and very nice people. If you like dry wines, however, don't do a tasting at this place.

After a long day of sightseeing (during a September snow storm) we were tired and wanted something light for our evening meal. After reading the reviews we decided to stop were very happy that we,did. The winery has the usual selections but adds some special wines that are infused with various local fruits and berries. One of their best sellers is a rhubarb wine. The meals are a selection of small plate items (Mediterranean type items) that include cheese plates, gourmet sandwiches, delicious homemade soups and various combination deli plates. The service was wonderful, they were very accommodating and never made us feel rushed ever though we arrived shortly before they were due to close for the evening. Perfect way to end the day

We stopped here on our way home from Mount Rushmore. I had never done a wine tasting before, so I wasn't quite sure how it worked. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and helped us select 5 wines to taste. There were some unusual wines with local ingredients including rhubarb, chokecherries, raspberries, and black currents. I bought a pumpkin wine that I haven't yet tasted. I came away with 4 bottles of wine, and my friend joined their wine program. They also had some wonderful jams for sale along with many types of cheeses that they paired with their wines. If you are in the area and enjoy wine, you should definitely visit this winery.

I have been here 3 times - once with my mom, grandma and sister; once with my girlfriends and once with girl & guy friends. Each time, I had something new to try. I can't say that I like all of the wines, but there are definitely some good ones. The atmosphere is very nice, as well. The first couple times we went, it wasn't busy and we got started with the wine tasting right away. The 3rd time, they had a few more people but they still got us started within a good amount of time. But, there is a really cute gift shop that you can look in while you wait anyway, and there is food available in their restaurant. The restaurant has great food. It's a little out of the ordinary, but definitely good. And their desserts are awesome. This is a great place to go - beautiful, fun, and delicious. And the wine tasting is free!!
