alta lake state park

I have stayed here five years in a row in June. The staff was really friendly when my husband lost his keys once. Bathrooms are pretty clean, but no soap (which is pretty normal). We always stay on the lake, which is SO gorgeous, but you do get tons of jet ski and boat noise on sunny days. The noise is worth it bc it is so beautiful. There is a wonderful place to hike for some spectacular views. On sunny days it gets warm REALLY fast, so I never really sleep in. Pay showers, which work, but there always seems to be something goofy about them-like one year, if you put money in one shower, it turned on the shower next to the one you were standing in in our bathroom. Right near Pateros, so easy to pick up whatever you need/forgot. I always feel very safe here. Golf and horseback riding within a mile of the campground. You just can't beat the view!!!!!!!! Public beach is great for kids but is on an incline. This year there was a lot of seaweed, which creeps me out, so I didn't swim. When we go in June, the water is really cold. There is a store at the top of the beach we always get popsicles and pop at before we go down to the beach, and they sell tons of stuff, including ice and even swim diapers for my toddler! You really need to camp here!

We camped here a couple of times in the past years and this is a nice spot for early or late season camping. We usually went in late May or early June and had great weather and the lake to enjoy. It can get really hot in summer, so we try to avoid the hot months. Some of the sites don't have a lot of trees or shade and you really need to bring a shelter for the sun.The park has a good amount of campsites and there is really a site for everyone. The bathhouses are basic, but usually kept up and clean. Most of the sites don't offer a lot of privacy, but there are quite spacious and some even have a view of the lake. The swimming area is also nice and big and offers BBQs and tables for the day use.We really like the area with nearby Winthrop to explore and also have lunch or dinner if you need a cooks night out.
