I had never signed up to have wine sent to me t any of the other wineries I visited, but I just loved this one so much... Loved the staff, their wines, the attention they gave us, their cheese and cracker tasting...If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and go try their wines. You will be surprised!I had no idea they even existed before that day... Now it has become my wine of choice...

We stopped in on a friends recommendation and found a great winery! Was surprised to learn of their concert series too. We sampled lots of good wine and left with a case in the trunk !!

We visited Maryhill winery first in what ended up being 6 winery stops. We loved the antique bar brought down from Alaska. The servers were friendly and we had a long list of wines to taste plus some extras thrown in. Okay, it was not an elite boutique style tasting experience, but it was very nice. The $5 fee was cheaper than what most of the other Hood River area wineries charged. Their wines were also reasonably priced. The views cannot be topped! Go and enjoy.

We stop by Maryhill Winery while traveling through the Columbia Gorge several times a year. You can have a tasting for $5.00 and then have that amount applied to the purchase of wine.I found a wine I liked, bought it for a relative for Thanksgiving dinner and they give you 7 different wines to try. Very nice people. The restrooms are nice, too. Gorgeous view is marvelous.

I loved the view from the vine covered outdoor patio. You look out over the stunning Columbia Gorge. Of course the wine is wonderful too.

Hello Gary,Thank you for visiting Maryhill Winery and for your nice comment regarding our gift shop. As you can see by our ratings, it is very rare that we get an unfavorable review so I was very surprised to read your comments about your wine tasting experience. I am genuinely sorry that we failed to provide you with less than our usual great service. We really work hard at giving great service and treating every customer with kindness and respect and providing a friendly and welcoming place to visit. I would almost bet you came to visit us on Saturday, October 18th. The way you describe that we didn't have time to visit or answer questions suggests that something out of the ordinary was happening. I know we had a couple of unexpected large groups arrive at the same time and we all of a sudden had met capacity with everyone enjoying the music, grape stomping and festivities for our Harvest Celebration that day. Our staff love serving, love sharing winery stories and talking about our wines so there must have been an unavoidable reason they could not provide our usual relaxed, informative and fun tasting for you. I am truly sorry for disappointing you in any way but I can honestly say this is an isolated event and I hope that you will give us another opportunity to serve you again. If you have any interest in discussing your experience further, I would appreciate the chance to speak with you. You may call me at 877-627-9445 anytime. Kind regards, Maureen LeeBTW, I was just in Camas and love what they have done to the downtown area. Very nice place to spend the afternoon.

My wife and I found this winery by accident driving back to Portland on the Washington side of the river. It was a pleasant surprise and located with great sweeping views of the Columbia River. They have a large patio that is perfect for relaxing and enjoying your wine. Now I am not a wine expert but I thought the selections we had in the tasting room were only average. Their prices however are not.We were disappointed in the fact they not only charge a fee for tasting, but they want the fee upfront. Their wine pours are exceeding small as well. I know from researching wineries in the Columbia River area there are many that do NOT charge a tasting fee. However if you want a pleasant place to stop while traveling up or down the Columbia River this is a nice break, or if you simply want to try one of the wineries along the Columbia River the views can not be matched. Of course you can drink some wine while enjoying the views.

Great concert venue. Very laid back. Not a bad seat. Decent food, good wine and comfortable. Wonderful place to see Ian Anderson aka Jethro Tull...or anyone else.

Hello Steve,Thank you for visiting Maryhill Winery on your recent trip. Thanks also for giving us your feedback and a different guest perspective to consider in our efforts to provide a great customer experience for everyone. Our customer's opinions are extremely important to us and we take each one seriously. We are humbled and grateful for all the positive reviews we have received and are genuinely concerned saddened by your unfavorable review and are so sorry we disappointed you in any way. In regards to charging the Tasting Fee upfront……. as you mentioned, we do see A LOT of people every day, have 3 different Tasting Bars and people often wander from their tasting to look at all the gift merchandise, wine bottles and enjoy the views. They may not always come back to the same bar or server so in an effort to make it relaxing and casual as possible, we charge upfront so the customer is free to wander and enjoy, go out on the terrace for a picnic or music, purchase now or later and not have to stand in line to pay for his tasting fee as the server takes care of that for them. As far as our tasting pours being the smallest.: We offer an average of 9-13 wines to our guests, a lot of other wineries are more in the range of 4-6. Each pour is at minimum 1/2 oz. which gives the customer at least a glass of wine. Many people have either already tasted elsewhere or plan to visit other wineries after they leave here or stay for the day and have more wine. We not only have a legal responsibility to curb over-consumption but we care about our guests and want them to arrive home safely. Your comment that our wines were "generic or worse" was a perfect example of how everyone has their own palate and opinion and perceive wines differently. That is what makes wine tasting so much fun! Out of 1,400 wineries from 26 states and 31 countries, Maryhill has just received the incredible honor of being Winery of the Year at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, 2009 Washington Winery of the Year, our winemaker; Richard Bachelor was named Winemaker of the Year at the Indy International. Those honors and the other 2500 prestigious awards, including many Best in Class were all based on our wines. I say this not to boast but to let you know, even after all of that, your (self-proclaimed) amateur opinion still…and truly does….. matter to us. We are sorry our wines did not suit you. While our marketing efforts may make us look big and bold on the outside, on the inside we are just a dedicated, small family owned and operated winery doing the best we can to provide over 40 great wines for every palate and a wonderful place for our guests and their family and friends to come and spend time together. With the best of intentions and kindest regards, Maureen Lee

We recently had the opportunity to go to an Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) concert at Maryhill Winery. We arrived about 90 minutes early and were directed to a handicapped parking spot. Signs pointed to a Shuttle for those of us parked here. It was great. We were taken right to the venue and picked up and taken back after the concert. It made it very enjoyable. We did not have to wait at all to purchase a glass/bottle of wine and their staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We chose a sweeter wine to go with the bread and cheese we brought. We had General Admission tickets but It was a short walk to finding a great spot to lay out our blanket. I wish we had arrived even earlier so we could have joined in on the wine tasting. It's very scenic countryside and the acoustics were very good. All in all, we had a wonderful time there. :-)

It takes a bit longer than you want to get here from Hood River, but it was worth the trip. good alternative when Mt. Hood is in the clouds. We brought a cooler filled with cheese, bread and fruit (from our Hood River fruit loop drive in the am), bought bottle of wine and spent a few hours on the terrace. Too bad it was during the week. On the weekends, they have live music! That would have been wonderful. The shop also has tempting gift things beyond wine too (t-shirts. kitchen items). They were sorting grapes near the entrance...too bad we couldn't get a closer look.

The setting for Maryhill is incredible. The wine tasting experience is fun and the music on the patio a wonderful addition. The wines are good, but not the best the gorge has of offer being produced in massive quantities. An enjoyable experience with a view that is second-to-none!

The amphitheatre is a great spot for a summer concert. It has good sound plus a good view of the surrounding hills and the river. It can get a bit breezy up there so be prepared. The staff is generally friendly. You can buy a bottle of wine to enjoy during the show. Food is available but I cannot comment on that as we brought our own picnic. The couple of times we've been there the parking has been an issue. We have an ADA placard and although they think they are being accomodating it's really not convenient or easy for folks with disabilities at all. The designated ADA parking is far from the venue. You have to board a bus and be shuttled over. The prime parking, including the ADA spaces is reserved for the VIP ticket holders. That doesn't feel right. I complained to the event coordinator and was told it's not an unfair advantage as anyone can buy those tickets.

The Maryhill Winery Amphitheater where they have summer concerts is an incredible venue. The amphitheater overlooks the Columbia River Gorge and it is quite a sight at sunset. The acoustical system is excellent - we sat in the grassy area and could still feel the thump of the bass. It is about a 2 hour drive from Portland, but is very scenic if you take Hwy 14 on the Washington side. We will definitely go to another Maryhill concert.

Hello. Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a great review. We appreciate it so very much. You are not alone in your fondness for the Reserve Zinfandel. It is continually our most talked about, coveted and top selling red wine year after year. We would LOVE to be able to do the tastings outside but will have to settle for enjoying the beautiful vistas from our large windows during your tasting and welcome you to sit and enjoy the views with a bottle of wine and a picnic on our terrace. Thanks again. Hope you can come back and visit us soon!
