I can't give you all my secrets but love this one for late afternoon play when it is uncrowned. Simple layout with beautiful trees, wide fairways, shorter par fours and nice greens, bunkers and water features make it an excellent place for casual practice rounds if you are just a casual golfer. Pros would blast it. Amateurs love it. Always cool and reasonably priced.

Course was really in good shape considering the drought. Not much rough, not too long, not too much water. A few challenging sand traps and decent green speed. And Mondays were twilight rates all day for everyone!

I'm also not a long ball hitter so this is a GREAT course for me. The old established trees and landscaping make it a real pleasure to enjoy and somewhat a challenge to play. The little cafe is above average and the folks in the pro shop are way above average. And it's a GREAT buy as golf goes. Thanks Larry for the help!

This is a fairly easy course, from the looks of it. Drove a bucket of balls, and that's all this visit. Staff seemed a little bored.

I play here with a group I've been playing with for many years. We play Buena every Sunday. The people on the desk are really great and have always taken care of us. The course is not in the best shap. A lot of Bare areas, the fairways are hard. greens slow and bouncy. That being said I'm a high handicapper, and this is a fairly easy course.

Have played it several times. Wide open course that is kept in decent shape. Usually very busy and you can expect to wait on many holes.

I am a high handicap golfer, and enjoyed this course. It would not be a hit with a great golfer. The course is flat, and the holes are all squeezed together, but it is a good place for someone like me to practice. There is not too much rough, so you don't lose a lot of balls. It was very crowded on the day I played.

Had all the amenities. Course is fairly well maintained and cheaper than most in California. Nothing too exciting but has some intersting holes especialy the par 3 over water. Didn't make it by the way.

Uninspired and boring. Not recommended. The City spent a ton of money renovating this course but it's basically unchanged from the old days. For some reason there always seems to be (ground) water in places where there shouldn't be. Sloggy. Of course, it's flat and windy. But that's Ventura so I suppose the course can't be downgraded on that basis. Not recommended. Sorry.

Great course at reasonable price. Greens are tough which makes in challenging. Five minutes from the harbor with lots of restaurants and shops.

This is a very fun course to play. There are a lot of rolling hills, trees, challenging greens, and plenty of water and sand. It is a great way to spend time with your buddies. The weather in Ventura makes it possible to play even on a hot summer afternoon.I have to say that for the price, the greens could have been better maintained. They were a little chewed up and covered in divot repair mix. The price isn't terrible, and while it is a public course, I would hope for some cleaner greens.

Buenaventura's layout is much more hacker friendly. Open fairways, a few trees, not much water and NO sawgrass this course is friendly for the beginner and weekend warrior. If challange and difficulty is what you want it is only 1 mile away at Olivas. Great course, nice people and good value.

Great location to get married. They take care of everything for you! This review is way outdated though; we got married in September of 2006!

Ocean breezes golfing. Not far from the Ventura harbor, shops, beaches, if you want something to do after a round of golf.
