Pretty beach that allows dogs although it like there wouldn't be much beach left at high tide. Also the surf is a little much for kiddies to get near.

Poplar Beach is found at the western end of Poplar Street in Half Moon Bay. There is ample parking for a small fee. You have access to several miles of paved walking and biking trails along the beautiful Pacific Ocean bluffs. Also, there is access down to the beach, although that is not paved and is steep in some spots. Although there are leash laws in San Mateo County, the beach is generally considered fairly dog friendly, and you see many dogs running and playing off leash. Also, local horseback riding stables lead groups of riders down on the beach.A great place for a walk, a picnic and a wonderful place for sunsets.

This is a beach you can walk to from downtown Half Moon Bay, there is also a parking lot available. Great walking path to go north or south. Beautiful sunsets and sand.

Great beach! And also dog friendly. Easy access, a bit tight on parking during weekends and holidays but great long beach. Wide open sands. Waves are a bit rough, but still fun to play in. Watch out for horse dung...

Very nice beach with beautiful views of HMB and the coast; Easy access but have to pay to park and walk down a steep incline to get to the beach; Horses also use the beach.

We love this beach and like taking our dog for walk. It's never very crowded which makes for relaxing stroll.

Poplar beach is a great place to enjoy Pacific crashing onto the beach as well as do some hiking. The trails around the beach are well put together and lead to nice, quiet areas. The whole area is very beautiful and rugged.

One of many stopping off points to enjoy the Half Moon Bay beaches. Beach itself (down steep slope) is lovely as are the cliffs and the views. Fields of wildflowers on top at times. Lots of walkers and bikers along the coastal trail and can get busy at times, but the beach itself is quite ample in terms of room, as it goes on for miles.Parking is expensive, about $2/hour! Only a port-o-pottie.

just make sure you pay for the parking - but it is an underused and beautiful beach. Take the coastside trail (above) to the south and it is amazing.

Riding a horse down the beach sounds very romantic, but for other people enjoying the beach it can be quite gross. The minute you try to get down there on a slope dirt hill there's horse poop. And I slipped and fell down twice. On the beach there were no horses in sight, just tons and TONS of big hunks of horse poop, bird feathers and debris. We had to try to find a spot poop-free, which wasn't easy! What's so sad is that the beach is beautiful! It has gorgeous cliffs, nice soft sand and could be a ton of fun! The city really needs to get in there and clean it up regularly. Maybe make the people with all the horses do it! Everyone needs to pick up after their pet, whether it's a dog or a big horse, it's your responsibility!

Nice parking lot which you need to feed the meters. Benches along the cliff if one does not want to feel sand in their toes. Easy access to nice sand beach. Porta potties (or Peet's coffee is a few miles up the highway).

The beach was pretty! It's sandy, but there are quite a few rocks/shells to find. Lots of horses ride along it. Not a swimming beach, just a "Wow!" beach.

We visited Poplar Beach instead of Half Moon Bay State Beach, and it was a breath-taking sight! :) But it was a cold day, so my husband and I weren't able to complete the whole beach.. still, it's a lovely place for photos!
