Our family rented all the cabins for Thanksgiving weekend for some 4 years. We relocated only because our family size out grew the cabin numbers. Trying to remember>>>seems about 8 years ago. Our experience was always very positive. The cabins were always clean and each morning they were refreshed as needed the same as ay hotel/motel. Heaters worked wonderfully; always had hot water for showers or dishes. The only negative would be the "hall" was a bit small but we had enough room for our food and entertainment. I was looking up the resort to give the information to some friends planning a reunion and was very surprised to read the negative reports. Frankly we haven't been by there in a number of years but I cannot envision such a change. From past experience I would still recommend the resort.Note

We stayed in my VW camper while enjoying the tourmaline fee dig at the westend of the campground. The campsite was really nice in April. The kids and I enjoyed a pizza and potatoskins from the restaurant at the entrance and then had some popcorn beforegoing for a late night walk and then scary stories. The roads are a disaster for the most part and the showers could usesome plumbing work, but we were happy to be able to get the dirt offafter all the digging. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were an enjoyable part of thetrip. We were hoping to take a boat out, but a storm that came through killed that. The kids want to go back down again someday and we'd probably stay hereagain in the campground.

The room was dirty. The bedspread was so dirty when my grand-daughter pulled it back the sheet showed a dirty print of her behind where she had been sitting. There were rats in my son's room eating food on the kitchen counter and on the table. We asked for a refund for one of the nights because of the rats but no one was available to address the issue and we're still waiting for someone to "get back" with us. That was in July. It's mid-August so ... beware.

Beautiful views from Cabin. People Friendly, campgrounds were clean, Cabins were Lovely!! Decided to have my Wedding at the site, and it was Perfect!! Will always return whenever we need a peaceful get-away :)

I would not recommend staying in the cabins. They are in ill repair, taken over by carpenter ants and spiders. Reserved for three nights; slept in the cabin first night and in the back of our Expedition the next two nights. I'm no Prima doña and I went for the rustic, nature experience. Had I known the cabin would have been infested, I would have stayed in a tent. This is too bad because this could become a real nice get away retreat with just some general maintenance, general repair and TLC.

I think some of the other reviewers here should take a chill pill... You are renting a cabin for $65. What do you expect! After reading all the awful reviews, we were pleasantly surprised by the Lake Henshaw 'Resort.' Our cabin was cute, comfortable and bright. Except for the mini-blinds (and I challenge haters to go home and clean theirs before carping) the cabin was spotless. The kitchen was well equipped. Sure the furniture, fixtures were old... But of the kitschy cottage variety. We had a fabulous view of the water and mountains from our front porch. All for a pittance. Get a grip everyone. Seriously. I'd definitely stay here again.

My family, some friends and I recently spent the weekend at Lake Henshaw. After reading the reviews we started looking for other options as most critics have hammered this place. There was a 30% chance of thunderstorms each day which is probably what scared the crowds away, as we were the ONLY campers there. The temperature was listed at a 90 degree high but it couldn't have been more comfortable, probably because of the shade and moisture in the air. This is not what most would consider a resort, but it is a campground and not in Sequoia so set your expectations accordingly. The tent sites were clean and there was plenty of shade from the big oaks, both upper and lower sites split by an aged trailer park. I suggest the upper site as you'll probably get less road/trailer park noise. The port-a-potty's were new and pretty clean and there were water spigots all over. Several bathrooms border the trailer park, each with 3 showers, flush toilets and sinks. They definitely need to be updated and dusted out a bit but I don't expect showers when camping so I was more than happy with them. The pool looked dirty but it could've been old plaster. We didn't choose Lake Henshaw because of it's "sparkling" pool so not a problem. The lake is across the street, probably a 10 minute walk (parking also available) from the upper site, no swimming and no pontoon boats for rent but still some good fishing off a great long dock. There are smaller 4-man fishing boats at reasonable rates. We tried to rent one early AM but were told they were expecting thunderstorms in the afternoon and it wasn't safe. Good call. We fished off the dock and packed it in when the rain started coming our way. By the time we made it back to our site the wind had kicked up and it was nothing short of torrential. I had dug a small trench around half our tent just in case and I'm glad I did or we probably would've headed home early and wet. Within an hour or so it was sunny again. The staff probably checked on us 6-7 times during our stay to see how we were doing, dropping off trash bags and so on, very nice people. The people in the shop down below were also very cool. My wife ate at the restaurant next to the shop and said it was good. For $20 a night we couldn't have had a better experience and will definitely be back to Lake Henshaw...when thunderstorms are in the forecast.

People the green IS Algae . It happens in most warm water lakes . It's called an Algae Bloom. The reason why the sign says if the wind blows come off the lake is because rookie boatrenters can get into serious trouble on a large lake . Waves are generated that can swamprental boats! The campground has nice sites . The cabins are under $100.00 what wereyou expecting ? Sure the place could be better. But in my mind you get what you pay for.Go there in the Spring before it gets hot . The lake will be prettier and they have trout stocked.

Spent three nites there while visiting the local tourmaline mines in the area. Cabin was mostly clean and comfortable (a few cobwebs on an artificial plant, we just moved it away from the bed). They are older cabins, but a good value for the price. The lake is a short walk across the road, and like many in California, is almost dry; hopefully we get some badly needed rain this winter. There is no television or radio, so after a hard day of mining, we were able to get caught up on sleep and came home well rested. There was loud highway traffic noise, but it died down around 8 or 9 o’clock. There was no A/C, so maybe not the best place to stay during the hot summer season (maybe bringing a fan would help), but the heater worked great. It also had a nice kitchenette to help save $$$, or the option of a restaurant next door (Great food and service, but not cheap). I’d definitely stay there again.

Our family decided to leave the city and enjoy a quiet weekend at the lake. My boys and husband spent the day on the water and caught not one fish! The lake has zero visability, the algae was so bad, and the smell was awful. After checking into our cabin we found it was terribly dirty. There were cobwebs and spiders throughout, ants, and broken doors. Sitting outside at the picnic table was impossible, there were red ants crawling up our legs. We were told there was a pool. After searching and finally finding it, we discovered it was located in the community trailer park and was filled with residents. The only good experience we had was eating at the cafe, good food and good service. We ended not even staying the night and drove back home the same day. Spend a little more money and head to Big Bear!

i went with the church group. this place was a second choice - the place we liked was fully booked. It is no wonder why booking is easy.It is a dump. Restrooms are filthy -- no maintenance or because people who go there just are filthy. It is sad that this place is not maintained because it has good potentials. Large area which is good for big church outings. Lots of trees and shade. Will never recommend. Will never return.

actually i live at the park across the road and i think its been years since anything has been done to restore the beauty it once had, it has gone to hell really bad i mean it should at least be a friendly place but no one really cares.

Let me start by saying I have never been camping. I have stayed at 5 star resorts but when we decided to go camping, I knew 5 star was not an option. My husband and I decided to have a family reunion/fishing trip at Lake Henshaw. We had no idea what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised with our whole experience here. Since I have never been camping, this was a great start. The cabins are rustic but well maintained. We had 5 people plus a baby and we were very comfortable. The beds we amazing in our cabin (#7). The kitchen is very small but was useful as were the showers. Yes there are bugs but you are in the mountains, camping so bring bug spray! The staff was vey friendly and accomadating. We had a very large party, over 40 people and they were very patient with us. the store has everything and is very reasonably priced. I suggest bring a small BBQ and a large cooler and small window fan if going in the summer. The fridge in the cabin is small but kept our food very cold. Overall, we plan to go back. If you are into fishing, it is a catfish lake so go prepared for that. We usually fish for Bluegill so we had no luck the first few hours. Once we started talking to people, they told us it was stock with catfish and crappie (seasonly) We changed our poles and had some great luck. We plan on making this an annual trip for us.

My sweet heart and I were to stay 2 nights, but after 1 night we were out of there! Also, No Refunds! So, be very careful!! Our room had massive spiders, my sweet heart was bitten by a spider, we found the spider dead in the bed with us and big blood stain on the sheet, the towels we old and ragged, bugs every where and it was Hot As Hell! Even though we took 2 of our fans from home my sweet heart informed me that she didn't sleep well because I kept waking up moaning to her "It feels like we're in Hell Baby" I am so serious, I literally was gonna go sleep in the car an turn the air on! So, if you still decide to stay, Please go to Walmart and buy a A/C for the window because u will burn the Hell Up! The Staff were pleasant, the Lake was across the street, the screen gates to the cabins Do Not Lock! The fridge is small like for a college Dorm room, moths, and beetle bugs flying threw the holes in the screens on the windows...We just made it home 2 1/2 hour drive out $87 bucks but rather be home In our own bed with our A/C and NO fear of being Bitten or roasting to death...... But the fishing was Awesome! I mean the fish were jumping out of the water all around the Lake, we caught Cat fish! We will visit the Lake again, but Not the Cabins!!

Very good ribs, good slaw, GREAT corn bread. We go often as there are not a lot of choices around here and it is always fun - rbis are the best, especially the beef short ribs, no bones and tasty. Be aware that they close early.
