Feather River National Scenic Byway (Route 70 north from Oroville) is really not all that scenic, in our opinion. If you are an admirer of highway and railway engineering, then go. You will marvel at the bridges across steep gorges. Otherwise, it's 3-4 hours of white knuckle driving with no guardrails. There are a couple of rest areas with informative bulletin boards and restrooms (chemical toilets) but other than that you are simply driving, giving your car a workout up and down steep grades and around hairpin curves. We would definitely NOT go again.

Belden is actually a semi known area in the SF dance commnity. But dont let it's "Rave Roots" be a discouragment when looking for a really nice place to campout and do some summertime Fishing / Hiking. I ended up in Belden At about 12:30 Am Saturday morning for a friends B-day event. When my group 9about 5) reached the local, I remembered being here for an electonic dance campout a previous year. Although we did have music playing I did manage to catch a few pre-dawn hrs of fishing (Sport liscense is required). As well as some hiking as well. All in all i felt it was worth the tent fee (slightly higher than national forest fees but there are enclosed bathrooms with showers (hot water!) and a merchntile and bar within walking distance of the campsites.
