We joined guide Tonja late on a fall Saturday morning in downtown Murphys. Our tour began at Alchemy where we enjoyed a half order of deep fried calamari, accompanied by a Belgian beer. Next stop was Lila & Sage where we were able to choose our own cupcake! Murphys history accompanied our walk and next stop was Hovey Winery where we tasted three wines and enjoyed sushi from Doke Sushi Bar. Next stop was the Murphys Historic Hotel for a half Reuben sandwich! The trip continued to Val duVino Winery for more wine tastings, over to The Spice Tin where you can purchase any kind of spice available in nicely packaged sizes then a stop at Marisolio Tasting Bar (olive oils and balsamic vinegars - 10% discount on tour) and finally Nelsons Candy store where we were treated to English Toffee. Take this tour!

This tour was a wonderful way to see Murphys thru the eyes of a local. Tonja was a great guide thru the town and obviously knows the town and many of the people. It is a nice overview of the food and wine / beer available in this small community and at the same time getting the history of the area.

Great tour! Tonja was our guide and since she was a local, everyone knew her in this quaint, small Gold Rush town and she knew a lot about the history here. We Started at Gold Country Coffee Roasters, which was an extra stop that we asked to go on so it was not included in the tour. Since Tonja is the owner and it was as all group, she gave us a tour of her roasting facility. The coffee drinks we each ordered were great!The official tour began at Alchemy Cafe & Market where we had great fried calamari, full sized appetizer plate each; very generous servings, wish I had eaten smaller breakfast before the tour. I am not usually a beer drinker but the one served with the calamari was excellent, very refreshing. We went on to 7 more stops, some with food, wine, cupcakes, candy, spices. 4 hour tour and very worthwhile!

We had a wonderful walking tour in Murphys with Tanya Who was informative, friendlyand obviously loved the town of Murphys. Although the tour takes around 3 hours it is gentle slowed paced and mostly in the shade and plenty of rest room opportunities. This is definitely a tour for adults as it involves wine and beer tasting. We made the mistake of having a large B&B breakfast and we were too full to enjoy the wonderfulTastings on offer. I have posted a few pics but have left a lot out so it is still a surprise. This tour is well worth the money. We were staying in Sonora but after we had visited this town we wished that we were staying here. It reminded us a little of Carmel without the sea!

I learned some history of the area, tried some food I hadn't had before, and came away with lots of memories. Lisa was an excellent guide and fun to be with. We were a group of 12 with differing interests, and she was able to handle them all. If you ever have a chance to take this tour---do!

How awesome this tour was. The food was wonderful and served by informative and energetic purveyors, especially 2012 Cupcake Wars winner, Karen. Our guide Lisa, made the history of Murphys come alive. She was humorous and fun and so much the perfect hostess for our 3 member Gal-Pal adventure we considered adding her as a fourth. Murphys is rich in history and now rich upscale and unusual places to eat and enjoy fine wines and beer. I can't wait to take my husband back for another round.

I am addicted to the food tour. This is the second that I enjoyed. My mom, sister, and I enjoyed this tour on a Saturday. We had the tour to ourselves. We visited 9 places in Murphys and learned some history along the way. The food we ate was delicious and the experiences and walk were fun. This is an easy walk for anyone who may have problems. My mom is easily out of breath and was able to complete this walk without a problem. My only negative is because I took a previous tour in Sacramento (which was awesome). I felt that I would have liked more of that experience which included time with the chef discussing food, pairings, sustainability, etc. It was still a great tour and I highly recommend it!
