My dad was the mayor of Dunsmuir at one time (he has since passed) and he built the little gazebo that is at the entrance of Hedge Creek Falls. I think he did a great job.

A short (less than a mile) gentle downhill grade leads one to these falls that cascade into a pool. There are a lot of rocks to sit on and enjoy the cool air and the trail leads one behind the falls for a great picture op! When we were there, it was a trickle compared to normal but it still offered a bit of serenity that was greatly appreciated.

Parking lot is on the side of the road, just north of the Siskiyou Ave exit. Short walk on an easy trail with about 100 ft drop down to the falls. Not much water in late summer, but was still worth it.

Hedge Creek Falls is nice for many reasons. It is such a short hike that you can take the kids with no whining or complaining. You can take older relatives as long as they are steady on their feet. You park just off the freeway at the Siskiyou Ave. exit--west side of the freeway. There are some picnic tables and a water fountain. The hike down to the falls is easy and the temperature at the bottom is much cooler than at the top (in the summer). It is not a large waterfall, especially now with the sustained drought we are having. In the winter it is much more impressive.

The Hedge Creek Falls are just north of the city of Dunsmuir on the old highway 99. Stop by and have a drink of the "best water on earth" and walk down to the falls. It will only take 15-20 minutes and is well worth it. Nice stop on a trip.

Go into Shasta Retreat go over the bridge and park and walk along the railroad tracks for about 45 minutes. It's a long walk but well worth it. If you go to the train bridge you have gone too far. There are no signs. Just be careful as you will more than likely meet a train. The falls are absolutely beautiful especially in the late afternoon when the sun hits the falls. WOW!! The water is ice cold but very refreshing if you dare get in.

short hike to the falls from parking area. popular for walking pets. very cold inside the canyon in the morning in october. Not a lot of water flow but the place was nice to visit.

This is just off I-5 and is in a very nice location with some columnar basalt and a nice forest with a very short (but dusty in September) trail and a nice picnic area at the start of the trail with water and a porta-potty. The waterfall itself is a bit ho-hum compared to some of the others in the area, but the cost of visiting (in terms of time and energy) is awfully low. You can walk behind the falls too which is nice. Apparently the city is planning on building a trail to link this falls with Mossbrae Falls but for the moment this has yet to be done.Seems like this is the perfect place to take a rest from the interstate if you happen to be passing through on a long drive. We went in September, I bet the falls are much nicer in the Spring time when there is some snow melt.

We walked to the falls with our 3 year old grandson! It was a wonderful walk and he so loved the small pools of water and the walk behind the falls! The trail to the observation point is wonderful and the view is remarkable! A memorable experience for all of us!

This hike was moderate through the woods. If you walk behind the falls to continue on the trail, the rocks are wet & slippery so a little precarious.

We were staying in Dunmuir,Ca for a week. I asked the tourist bureau (the lady there was very nice),some of the sites to stay, during our stay. I had heard of Hedge Creek and she also suggested it. Since we traveled with our 2 dogs,we stopped by one day there and decided that the path was a little too step for the big dog..the puppy maybe. The sad part was when we left with the dogs going part way down the path, there paw's were covered with sap..do be warned. We did give it a try the next day and found the path easy enough for my wife and my 15 year old son. The path down was beautiful (like Dunsmuir) with the color of the plants and the forest. The falls is pretty small, but we were able to take some great pictures of the falls and the area around it. This was during June,so I am not sure if there is another time of the year that the falls looks better. I agree with another review here,no strollers and where some no slick shoes.

Trail behind the falls takes you to an outlook over the Sacramento River. Not to difficult of a walk, but no strollers. Wear good walking shoes and take your camera

I was surprised at how close this is to the road in Dunsmuir. It's an easy short hike down over the bank and you come to this wonderful bowl-shaped cavern with a luscious misty waterfall you can walk behind for a great photo op~! Really fun.
