Pawnee City & its fabulous Pawnee City Historical Society & Museum are always worth a trip! A must see in my opinion! The museum is located on the east side of town. It contains 22 buildings, which even includes a barn that once belonged to Larry, the Cable Guy. 6 of the buildings were Country School houses and now function as a Chapel, Country Store, Library and Black Smith Shop and a small Cracker Box School. All buildings are filled with historical memorabilia and artifacts. Families with kids will really enjoy a day trip to this beautiful museum. Kids and adults can dress up in Pioneer clothes and have their picture taken in front of the log cabin. My very favorite buildings are the beautiful Prairie Log Cabin and the Butler House, the home of the first Governor of the State of NE. The museum has always lots of events going on. One of my favorites would be the Civil War Reenactment which is usually sometimes at the end of September. Better check their website first before planning a trip! You can also observe rugs being made on a loom while at the museum and even purchase one. Coming to this place is like stepping back in time! Really wonderful day trip!
