The Bower Mansion was once one of the most extravagant homes in the Nevada territories. Its a home of "boom and bust" story and was once the home of Lemuel Sanford Bowers and Alison Oram" Elley Bowers. There is the home to see, some farm equipment, and informational signs. The park itself is very nice with playground area, picnic grounds, large grass area, and scenic views. In the summer there is a large swimming pool for summer use; there is a fee.

We have driven by the exit to Bowers Mansion many, many times, for 25+ years. We had always meant to stop here, and never had. Yesterday we had a family birthday party for a granddaughter who turned 6 years old. This location is about halfway between family members homes, who all live about 1-1/2 hours drive from Washoe Valley in opposite directions. We met at the park at noon for a picnic lunch, on a Monday. There were no crowds. The park is beautiful with green grass, tall shade trees, a large playground, plenty of parking, numerous picnic tables. We were 5 adults, a month old baby and six children ages 3 to 9. After lunch and birthday party we all went to the pool. The shower/dressing area was nice. The pool is quite large and there is also a kid wading pool. There were 3 lifeguards on duty, with another very attentive lifeguard in a guard shack which was well supplied with bandaids. Many of the children, both ours and others, injured their toes on the cement around the pool. Other than that, a great time was had by all. We were able to keep the baby well back in the shade, and the children had a really fun day.We did feel that there were not enough chairs, and not enough shade, but we did manage to locate both for ourselves. The price was very reasonable, at $4 for children, $5 for adults and $4 for seniors. We stayed until closing at 5:00, and then went back to the park for a light picnic dinner. After dinner we walked over to see the mansion, which was closed. I believe the price for tours is $8. If so, we would not have paid that to go inside. The story posted outside with the history of the mansion was interesting. The vote was unanimous that this is a wonderful spot for a birthday party. We only wish that the fence that surrounds the pool area would be moved out to incorporate some grass and shade trees.

Stopped here for a picnic lunch. Nice park with shaded tables, a swimming pool, plenty of green grass and some playground equipment. The house is worth a tour and the history is interesting. Not a must see but if you are not hurried or need a pleasant outing, go.

A worthwhile visit. I couldn't get into the mansion to do a full tour, as it opens at 10am. The items nearby and the building itself is a great piece of architecture. There's a small room at the back with some amount of information about the history around, what's the socio economic during the past and how it changes when the Comstock Lode was discovered.

Another Virginia City historical place to visit even though it is in the valley, a must see and learn about Ellie Orim and her husband Sandy Bowers and the millions they aquired from the mine.

This place has a great past and a place in my heart. When we were kids it was a huge treat to go to Bowers and swim in the pool. If your adventurous hike up to the grave sites after you tour the house!

Very pretty place - off the main road, at the bottom of the mountains, next to natural hotsprings. Has a playground and grassy area for kids, or you can hike to the natural springs, or swim in the natural water pool.
