We stopped there but only the base of the post remains along with some graffiti and trash. Sad to see this famous site in such a condition.

We were left off here for a midnight Alien run on the Road to Rachel with a group of other runners. The mailbox is actually white and it is said aliens can get their mail here....

Ok...It's just a mailbox, but the story behind it makes it cool. We went down the dirt road past the box to get to Area 51. We chased the white pick-up truck for about 5 miles back to its perch on the hill just next to the entrance. We didn't cross the line. When we came by the first time there was a pick-up truck parked at the mailbox with no one around. Hmm maybe they were abducted?? Cool to be in the area with aliens!

Definitely a place to stop if you take the ET Highway. One of many of unique attractions you'll pass on this first 40 miles to Rachel.

whilst ,r.v'ing around the grand circle, my girlfriend and i (from the uk), planned on driving the e.t highway to rachel, and stay the night at the little ale'inn.we wouldn't get to the town of rachel just before sundown , so we decided not to stop at the black mailbox that night. instead visiting it the next day.the mailbox is situated roughly half way to rachel after turning off the highway, 20 miles or so, look for a gravelled turn off , and there it is ten yards or so from the road.the black mailbox is white these days, and covered in names (including ours, john and cheryl, look for us haha) written and sprayed on.it really is in the middle of nowhere, and you do wonder who it would belong to, as there are not many signs of life for miles around.strangely there was an empty car parked nearby, with no sign of an occupant.!!if you are in the right frame of mind, it is a surreal place, added to by several shiny black government looking cars we saw driving by when we were there.i imagined a lot more visitors on the road, as it was only the first week in october, but maybe we were the only alien hunters on the road that day, apart from a dutch couple we met at the little ale'innenjoyed the experience, and have the bragging rights for ever more

This was a quick stop on our way to Rachel but it is fun to say that you were there since it is referenced sometimes. Not much to see, just a mailbox, but worth a stop for a picture.

This mailbox is a necessary stop if you do the extraterrestrial highway. Aliens supposedly check their mail here from time to time. It is a mailbox in the middle of the desert, and that's all it is. But if you are going to the Area 51 entrance, you might as well stop by this thing. If you do visit, I recommend going on a cloudless night as the stars are amazing outhere. Incidently the black mailbox is actually white.
