It is a nice first to walk in. It isn't a strenuous hike. There was a pond where we sat and caught salamanders. It would be great to do with kids.

Primitive roads and trails wind through the woods, large trees, ferns, wetlands, quiet, wildlife all close to Corvallis. My boys train here for cross country, I hike here, dog friendly, well kept, the local crowd is respectful and keeps the area clean. Love this place.

If you're into long walks, enjoy fresh air, and being one with nature this is the place. Went there on a field trip with my son, it was very educational. Great biodiversity and many new and old trees.

This is a great spot to hike, bike, walk your pooch, and it's near town. Great place to bring your camera....beautiful ! Only down side the parking can be limited if it's busy.

This is a great place to walk, walk your dog, bike, etc. Lots of trails and beautiful scenery any time of year. Take your camera!

It's our quick getaway place when we want a nice forest walk. Love the old growthtrail and the ridge trail.

Pick up a free map from the trailheads, or buy a color map from Peak Sports or one of the book stores in Corvallis. The color map covers the Dunn forest as well as the McDonald. The free map is just the McDonald. There are many, many hikes of varying difficulty that you can take. The roads are, well, forest roads, and the trails are the best maintained trails in Oregon. The Dunn forest is a bit off towards Airlie, and a great place to go for privacy. It is more of a working forest (a few clear cuts). Some trail use is restricted in winter, but otherwise excellent horse and bike use as well. Look to the Oak Creek access, Lewisburg saddle, Peavy Arboretum or 100 gate of the Dunn for some great hiking.

I run, hike, and bike here every week. Lovely place. Plenty of oid growth and nice second growth, Great views at hill tops. Also a good place to see high quality clear-cuts and forestry, which supports the OSU College of Forestry.

This forest is one of the favorite places for hikers and bikers (mountain and cross) in the PNW. You can start from several locations North and South. Most roads and trails and hikable and bikable all year, though some are closed to bikes in the winter to prevent erosion. The highest peak (McCulloch) is located here and provides for both a long and challenging hike or bike and great views from the tip. Dimple Hill has excellent views of Corvallis, the Cascades and the Coast Range. If you like to hike and bike you'll want to visit here. Flower viewing is pretty good in the spring, esp. orchids.

Nice trails winding through thick forest only minutes out if the city. Good parking, and well maintained.

If you like to walk or hike, this is your place. Take the dog, take folks from out of town, take yourself, just go do it 'cause this is an all year round place to walk and enjoy.

Hike, bike, run, take the kids, take the dog. A great place to go in Corvallis at either the Oak Creek access, Soap Creek Saddle or Peavy Arboretum.

This forest is so close to the city, but you feel like you are way out in the woods while hiking. A 10 minute drive gets you to the parking area. There are many paths to choose from. There are maps and signs to keep you from getting lost. My dog likes it, too!

We found this by chance and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. If you like to get out of the car and stretch your legs in a natural environment, then you will likely enjoy this as well. There is a port-a-potty in the parking area if you need a bathroom facility while you are there.

I live near McDonald Forest, so the convenience is perfect. Even if I didn't live here, I would come here for hiking on a regular basis. I am a weekly hiker and I often do the 7-mile loop or the hike up to Dimple Hill. Any time of the year, this is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty of the trails, the wildflowers, the bright green moss, the ferns and the viewpoints. Whether you are a hiker, biker, runner or horseback rider, this is an amazing place for all of us.
