They allow Amish buggies and other horsemen on the trail, but they use their own pavement beside the main trail. Water and picnic facilities are available. Lovely mix of trees and colors in the fall.

When you are in Ohio's Amish Country, be sure to visit Historic Downtown Millersburg, and when you do, check out the Holmes County Trail. A beautiful scenic trail, built on a former railroad bed, you can travel north to Holmesville and Fredericksburg, and south to Killbuck. It's likely the only trail engineered specifically to accommodate horses, bikes and foot traffic, where you can walk or ride, side by side with Amish buggies, making their way to town. Check it out!

Went to Holmes County to see the Amish Trail. The trail was very difficult to find. The main street was very very commercial and crowded even for a rainy day. I much prefer Lancaster, PA.

We didn't know that this trail existed until we read about it in a brochure from the Berlin Resort, where we were staying. We have started biking with our grandkids as they are getting older and it is nice to know that there are options close to home.

This is one of the best biking trails we have been on. Bike, walk, jog, horseback riding or bring your buggy. You will enjoy this trail. This is a Holmes County hidden gem

We have biked and hiked this trail several times, and it is always wonderful. It is peaceful and scenic, and one of the best things about the trail, is that you share it with the Amish and their buggies.

Our friends recommended going on this trail for a nice walk to get some exercise. We had 3 couples in our group so we decided we would try and guess how many buggies we would encounter on the trail. We walked, talked about nature and bird watched. It's a great trail, because buggies travel on one side and people on the other. No mud or manure to deal with. I liked the wetland area's, because we saw and heard the birds. Very nice trail to get your exercise.

I loved this part of the country, while walking I was passed by many buggies, runners and walkers like myself. It was covered with snow, very cold but lovely scenery. The trees were dripping with ice and covered with snow. The path was easy and there was enough room for passing easily. Well worth getting out there.

Very well maintained rail to trail through Amish country. Buggies use this to avoid roads. Great mixture of bikes, walkers, and horse and buggies!

This trail is very nice. Half for Amish buggies and the other half for runners/walkers and bikers. I can't wait unit they extend it all the way to Columbus. I have ridden the whole thing on bike and it is flat and paved. nice scenery. Wear bug spray right now as it is bad with mosquitos this year.

The Rails To Trails is a great addition for Holmes County. A scenic view with asphalt roadway that is shared with Horse and Buggies, Bicycles, Walkers and Runners.

What an enjoyable bike ride! We have done the whole trail and throroughly enjoyed it. It's not very hilly, so fine for the casual biker. The section from Millersburg to Killbuck is particularly level and easy to do. There are barhroom facilities at the trail in Millersburg. It is such a treat to have a horse and buggy come along at the same time as we are riding. Very nice trail :)

Very enjoyable flat walking. We did about 3 miles. There were some runners as well. Follows alongside river on the part we walked. Nice that there were some public bathrooms at the depot/parking area in Millersburg.

The trail can accomodate Amish buggies, walkers, bicyclists, in line skaters all at once in the same direction. It is truly a country walk/ride way.

We like bicycle riding and we would highly recommend the Holmes Country Trail. It is a very unique trail we first discovered it a few years ago and have returned several times since. It is unique in that it is designed to accommodate Amish traffic. It is like having two trails in one-- one side is for hikers and bikers, the other side is for Amish buggies! Half is paved and a smooth ride where the other side is crushed limestone to accommodate buggies. Be forewarned, not all Amish obey the rules! Occasionally you will find evidence a horse was on the paved trail, so pay attention! (smile) The trail is currently around 15 miles one way. It is very easy to ride both ways, just allow plenty of time so you can take your time and enjoy some of the prettiest scenery in Ohio. We park in Fredericksburg,OH, then will ride south toward Millersburg and into Killbuck where we turn around and ride back. Bring snacks and water. There may be a small deli in Fredericksberg, a water fountain at the Millersburg depot (mid-way), and you can find a Wendy's just off the trail south of Millersburg, but there isn't much more. Some of the trail is sunny and some shaded. If you want a nice Amish style meal afterward, we recommend you visit "Mrs Yoders Kitchen" not too far from Frederickburg, located in Mt Hope, OH.If you want to see more about the trail, check out their web site -- www.holmestrail.org.
