We do all of our travels by car. We take our time and see America. The RBH Library is one of those gems that you would surely miss if you are in a hurry to get somewhere. We look for presidential sites whenever we stop and were not disappointed with this one.We did get chased away from the house when they asked if we had tickets (which we didn't). We were sad to miss that but the museum pieces in the library and the building itself were magnificent. The weapons collection was of special interest,

Wonderful staff to help w/genealogy research for free! Due to cutbacks they are not open on Mondays. Occasionally there are beginning genealogy classes (for a minimal fee) to help one start learn about how to do searches. Donations are accepted.

I live in Fremont, and when ever we have visitors we always take them out to see the Presidential Center. If you are near in October they have a wonderful reenactment with a battle and also a shopping area like it was in Civil War time. They also have many people in period costume camping out. When I was a child they had the best sledding hill in the area. I spent many a day here in the winter. The house is awesome. It is being restored the way it was when the president lived here. At Christmas time they decorate like they did in the 1800's , In the museum they have a wonderful genealogy research center also. Closed on Mondays.

We are on a dead presidents kick & did not know much about President Hayes. We took the house & library tour $13 per adult. The house is awesome! Excellent guided tour of beautifully preserved gothic mansion- much of the family's items are there. The library is the first presidential library in the country and has a small but interesting collection. The grounds are lovely and include president Hayes' grave. Close by is the battlefield of Fall Timbers.

Our out of towners certainly enjoyed the history and the beauty of the Library and surroundings of this nearby historical landmark. It was a refreshing change of pace from the boating and beaches on the Lake, but it was fun to get back to the Lake after the touring of the excellent Library.

For any history buff, this is a wonderful research library. Lots of primary documents, old newspapers and periodicals, and ephemeral material. Mostly related to Fremont, the Hayes Family, and the Civil War and Reconstruction era.

I went to the library on a mission to view a family heirloom that is held in the library archives. I also wanted to do some genealogical research. With the assistance of a most accommodating staff, I was successful in both endeavors. The curator Mary Lou took us to her office, quickly procured the heirloom, and let me hold it using archival gloves and be photographed. This was a great thrill. Later in the genealogical section the person in charge was most helpful. The museum on the first floor was very instructive on the life and times of President Hayes. Along with the tour of the beautiful home, it was a most rewarding day.

The library collection of historical books and records is a great place for genealogical research, especially for northern Ohio.
