Plenty of shade. Sand is clean and soft. Great for little kids. Can wade. Volleyball court, picnic tables, easy access. A must do if in the area

We like coming here to swim, sun, and enjoy some down time. There are bathrooms on site, as well as picnic tables, built in charcoal grills, and plenty of parking. This is one of my 11 year old daughter's favorite places to spend a Saturday.

The water is very shallow so it's great for small children. the park is very shaded so on hot summer days, it's perfect to cool off.

You can walk out for a mile here in waist deep water with a perfect sand bottom. Great beach with lots of room and tons of beautiful sand. Fun little water critters to search for on the left and right end of the property. Good picnic facilities. It's really a beautiful spot! Don't miss a drive through the islands afterward - go to Kim's on Rt.2 for Creamies (soft ice cream for you New Yorkers).

I have seen better (alburgh dunes and north beach for example) but still, only 6 miles down the road from me, it is a fun place to go for a picnic, bbq, or get together with friends. The water is warm and shallow. Usually pretty clear and clean, it can sometimes have seaweed or a bit murky. Restrooms and a food truck are available. Lots of room for lots of people, and this place can get packed. Especially holiday weekends. I have lots of memories here with my daughter who is now 12. Many more to come......

This is what Vermont state parks on the lake are all about! Beach...ample room to run around, easy parking, grill sites and picnic tables. You can spend a fun day on the cheap here and it never seems to be overly crowded (except a few days in mid-June when many schools bring their students there for a final class trip). You will want to leave fido at home though :-((

Pros... Ample parking, beautiful view, bathrooms, swingsCons...seagulls everywhere bothering you and their poop all over the beach, sand is gritty and gross, no one appears to rake this beach at all, sticks n seagull poop made it hard for kids to play in sand or even sit on the beach anywhere. Most definitely shod drive further out for a more taken care of state park.

Marshy, shallow water...It basically looks like someone created a beach by dumping sand in the middle of a marshy area. Yes, there's sand in a certain spot, but the surround lake is weedy, marshy, and extremely gross to swim in....We stayed for 45 minutes before packing up, getting our entry fee receipt (good for using any state parks for the day), and went straight back to Alburgh Sand Dunes....

July 20, 2012 my wife and I arrived at Sandbar picnic area and saw our relatives waving their arms and fighting off seagulls. I joined in but the seagulls were experts at judging distance and speed. I found a piece of drift wood and began throwing it at them and gradually they backed away about 30 ft. They continued to fly over the table and crap on the food. We threw most of it away. These birds have lost all fear of humans and are a menace. They need to be destroyed and strict do not feed the birds policy adopted. A private resort or private lakeside resident would not tolerate this. But Sandbar is run by the government, which explains it all. Go elsewhere.

Sand Bar State Park looks like it's far from Burlington on a map but it's only 20-25 minutes away. It's great for all ages. The sandy bottom, sandy beach, shadded areas and shallow water make it very family friendly. There are bathrooms and boat rentals. They have lots of grills, picnic tables and beach volleyball. They open at 10:00am and there is usually a line of cars ready to go in. There's tons of parking available.

Lovely state park - the water is always warm, there is room to park and it is a safe place for kids. Snack shop is good, view is nice and it is reasonable for a family

This beach and park is good for families. The water is level and only about 1-3 feet deep which is awesome for little kids. By the end of summer, the water can get stagnant, so go early season. There is a lot of shady trees and bbq pits for folks to use.
