We decided to stay here based off of the reviews we had read. We were not disappointed. We ended up arriving right at 6pm when the office should close, but the gentleman there showed us which sites were available (since we did not have a reservation) and told us to drive around and see which one we liked. He was very helpful and he stayed late just for us. We ended up taking site 11 which was not waterfront but we still had a great view of the water. The site was raised up from the waterfront sites. Our site was huge, we could have easily fit 3-4 tents and 3 cars there and still had room. Most sites were not this big but most of them were still very roomy. They even rake every site after people leave so the sites are very clean and fresh when you arrive. Some of the waterfront sites are more private than others. Sites 6, 13, 14, 25, 29 were the most private. 25 is next to the beach though. Aspen was a great lean-to site. There are 3 sets of bathrooms at this park. Two of them are updated and very nice. They have a laminate floor not the concrete you usually see in state park bathrooms. They were also very clean. The bathroom between the Elm and Hazel lean-to is the one that is not updated. The bathrooms by the cottages have 2 showers that are next the the bathrooms but not in the bathrooms. We found this is very nice if you have kids because they are more private then the ones in the bathrooms. They sell ice here which is always a plus ($2 for 5 pounds, $3 for 10 pound block) and the firewood was $5 a bundle (it was a little green but you can find enough sticks around the park to get a fire going and then put the greener stuff on). There were a few trails around the park which are nice and easy to walk. The campground itself is a nice place just to walk around every day. You can also rent canoes and kayaks ($20 half day, $35 full day) If you have a waterfront site you can kayak right from your sites which is very nice. The beach area is small but nice. There is a decent size swimming area that is weed free. There are Lilly's growing in the pond, they are scattered around which makes for a very pretty pond. We drove down the road to Glen Lake one day and walked park of the trail there. The lake is beautiful! There was hardly anyone on the lake and there are only a few houses on the lake. We found a very nice little beach area off part of the trail and could not help but take a little dip in the very clean clear lake. We just sat there and enjoyed the views of the mountains around the lake and the peace and quiet. The campground is a very nice place. It is a family campground so expect to see kids riding their bikes around. When we were there most people were in bed by 9:30pm which we thought was early. By 10pm it is completely quiet. There also were not many early risers. Usually it did not get noisy until 8:30 or 9am, even then it was not that bad compared to many campgrounds. Our only negative thing here was we had some campers down a few sites from us with 4 older teens and one of the girls was crying so loud one night. We thought it was weird being 16ish and crying that loud when it was quiet. We found out that the teens really did not want to be on vacation with their parents, ha!! We will be back to this campground soon. You can't beat the kindness of the staff and the quality of this campground. There is also no day use so it is just the campers at this park so it never gets crowded.

Our family loves to camp here! We make sure to come at least a couple times a year for a long weekend up to 4 or 5 days! We have camped in many New York and Vermont State campgrounds and this is by far our favorite! It's small and quiet on a small pond where we can swim, kayak, and/or canoe whenever and wherever we want on it! The staff is friendly and it's great that generator use time is set to a minimum so that we don't have to hear generators running all day long. We will continue to camp here regularly and recommend it to others!

We just returned home after camping at Half Moon. The staff at this park were by far the friendliest and most welcoming of any of the state parks in Vermont that we have been too. (We are Vermonters and have been trying to camp at every state park). The bathrooms were also the cleanest. Remote and beautiful there was no road noise which is rare at state parks. Wonderful, albeit buggy, time.

I love the grounds - they are pretty and very well kept. The bathrooms and showers are well maintained. Park staff is very nice and willing to help. Nice hiking trails and good swimming in the pond, as well as boat rentals. A regular destination for me!

My husband and I just got home from 5 days at Half Moon State Park and we had an amazing time! We had campsite 13, right on the water. The people are so friendly and the scenery is gorgeous. It is tranquil and quiet, no loud parties. The air is so clean and fresh and the fish are healthy. We have to give special thanks to Chris for being so helpful. We will be back

My husband and I used to load up our dogs and his hand held guitar amp and head over for a weekend of relaxing. He would entertain in early evening. The dogs, back then we had 4, loved it. The Rangers were the nicest people you ever met and the place is beautiful and quiet.

There is not a bad site at Half Moon. The people are so very nice. The park is clean. The only complaint I could come up with would be that the beach is "so far away" from the camp sites on the other side of the pond. Love the hiking trails. Nice & quiet, except for the bullfrogs & they don't respect the quiet hours. BEST park in my opinion.

Half Moon Pond state park (Vermont park of the year), is a quiet; secluded and beautiful state park that has everything you need to have a great vacation or just a quiet weekend. Choose from cabins; lean-to's; pond side camp or a nice open site for your RV (no hook ups though). Reasonable boat rentals; great hiking trails and a cheap supply ($4 pb) of nice dry firewood. We stayed in a lean-to the 3rd week of September so it was incredably quiet and serene yet is only 20 minutes from civilization. Nice clean bathrooms with hot showers. We had a great week.

Half Moon State Park offered camping sites, cabins, boat rentals, fire wood and easily accessible rest rooms. Everything was clean, quiet and beautiful. The folks around us were respectful of the 'quiet' with reading/board games/paddling/hikes on nearby trails. The pond is not ideal for swimming, best used with canoe or kayak. Nearby is Glen Lake - a good swimming place.

Pros 1) Very scenic. Lake, fog etc.2) Ground condition is excellent and well groomed. Firewood available to buy on-site3) Hot shower available at 10c/min4) Clean bathroom5) Boat rental available and cheap (<$10/hr or $20+ all day)6) Beach for swimming. Not cold at the end of August.7) Few mosquitoes or flies. Still plenty of fireflies at night. 8) Dumpster available 9) There are many ponds and lakes around for swimming.Cons1) Water is not very clear, but OK for swimming. A lot of lotus.2) Lack a longer trail. The pond is quite small for serious hiking, but trails are well maintained.Overall, highly recommended. Ideal for staying with kids.

Campsites on the water. Perfectly clean and well maintained. Beavers, owls, frogs, chipmonks, etc.. very wonderful place. We have been going for 22 years.

I love camping in VT state parks. However, I did not like this campground. The pond is shallow and weedy. The campground is not good for bicycling. The amenities are mostlyon the other side of the pond from the camping sites. The bathroom building is new and well maintained.

I stayed at Half Moon State Park for 4 days by myself in early September 2011. The lake was beautiful and full of birds, snakes and salamanders. I also saw the most amazing collection of mushrooms that I've ever seen. There were only one other group of campers there when I was there, so it was a great place to be alone and enjoy nature.

We love to tent in Vermont State Parks. Half Moon pond is a beautiful small lake perfect for kayaks. The campground surrounds the pond. Our site was flat and secluded, we put up 2 tents and a screen room. The bathroom near our site had recently been redone and was very clean. We were only a short drive to Lake Bomoseen, a much bigger lake and larger swimming area. Btw free admission to other VT State parks when you are staying at a different park. We loved it.

We have camped in Vermont for years but this is the first time at half moon. Great campground and so many places to fish and kayak in the area! Think we found our new camping spot! Can't wait to go back!
