It is unfortunate that the Gamble-Rodgers place is so seldom opened to the public. When it is open we always visit. This 175 acre historic estate was created by Gamble of the Proctor-Gamble empire, and was used as his hunting retreat. For years the Daytona Museum of Arts and Science hosted visitors, conducted tours and held events. However with the collapse of our economy there are too few resources to keep the estate open. Today the museum holds occasional lectures on the house porch, conducts nature tours, and hold other events there. If you are lucky enough to be in the Port Orange area when the events are held, I highly recommend attending, The Gamble Rodgers House property provides a glimpse into old Florida, something so rare today. Located on the property is a 1938 replica of Snow White's cottage (although they can no longer call the cottage by that name due to a Disney' copyright). This is unfortunate. The neighboring "Cracker Creek" business acts as a gate keeper for the property, and to my understanding, will still conduct a tour of the house. This must be verified. The Museum of Arts and Science's URL will provide further information about the Gamble Rodgers Place: http://www.moas.org/gamble%20place.html

Very much enjoyed visiting this historic house and grounds. Our guide was quite funny, informative and loved the quiz questions he asked, which I have to say, got most of them right..He was surprised. The old Cracker Style House is in very good condition, although much of it you look into closed up rooms through glass partitions. There is also a small citrus packing structure, but the best part is the full sized replica of Snow White's House and yes, there is even a Wicked Witch Hut and the entrance to the Dwarfs Mine.. The place is nestled on the banks of Spruce creek, so adds to the charm... It was a great visit..

We have been coming here for years and everytime there has been some improvement. The Gamble Rodgers House provides a glimpse into old Florida. Tucked away in a shaded area along the water is also a log house ....By 1938, the building was a full-size replica of Snow White's cottage. There is also a well and tree from the story. You can walk around and look in the windows of the house and see the drawfs on the stairs and the beds .

A nice historical place, many years since we have been, but it was fun, they had a night walk through the area around the house.

This is a great historic place but the big problem is you never know when it is open. I'm lucky because I only live two miles from this attraction so if it is not open it is no big deal but if I was a tourest I would try to get information before I went.
