We were sent to this secluded nature trail by a local state forest ranger. McKethan Lake is just a 1/4 mile east of the Withlacoochee State Forest administrative offices on Broad Street-US Hwy 41. The fee is $2@ paid in an envelope as you enter the park area. Be sure to get a map of the McKethan Lake Nature Trail and start walking. I estimate the entire loop is about 2 miles. You can opt to drive around the lake on the tarmac. However, I would recommend the wooded nature trail with 24 well marked interpretation stations. We were not overwhelmed with the number of birds but enjoyed the wrens, warblers, and herons. Bring a sandwich lunch and enjoy a quiet, peaceful morning or afternoon.
