I have many family members who are buried at this cemetery. I always visit when I am in town visiting family. The cemetery is always nicely kept up and is a classic. I visited in October, and not only do I visit my family members, but I also find it interesting the mobsters that are buried there too. This may sound strange, but I always can find my families graves because they are right across the way from the Giancana memorial. I also found Al Capone's grave this time around too. I was surprised at how close it was to the entrance. It is truly a beautiful resting place and am glad that my family is resting in such a beautiful environment.

The graves here are just beautiful works of art and if you read up on the people interred here from gangsters to cardinals to rumored ghosts, there is a great plethora of history all around you. Definitely worth a visit.

I know this is a little weird rating a cemetery but, if you are visiting the chicagoland area you must stop here. It is loaded with history and lots of famous and infamous people are buried here. The monuments and grave markers are one of a kind. So many of the statues are starting to crumble and fall apart and soon they will be gone(as some of the families are all deceased now and there is no one to pay for the up keep). If you can get past the fact that you are touring a cemetery, I highly recommend it. Don't feel funny about visiting there. Lots of people do. It's fascinating. You just have to remember to be respectful of the people that are there visiting their loved ones.

Interesting to visit grave site of Al Capone and other members of the Capone family. Lots of Italian names on the other gravestones.

You'll find almost every Chicago mobster here from Al Capone to Sam Giancana. It is facinating. You'll see Dion O'Banion, the Genna brothers and Frank Nitti, too.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express around the corner from Mt Carmel. While using the TripAdvisor app at the hotel for things to see "near me now" I realized I was a mile away from Al Capone's grave. I went to check it out. It makes the whole Chicago experience a little cooler.

Visit a cemetery? Yes! Ok I do have relatives buried there but you can go to Al Capone's grave, All the Archbishops mausoleum, and other historic dead people.

LOVE this place! The monuments are large and small, with the largest collection of enameled photographs around. Grab the Arcadia Publishing Book by Floro-Khalaf and Savaglio for a good outline of the history and location of many of the famous (especially the mobsters, the bride, and the cardinals). A must see if you're in the Chicago area and love cemeteries.

Learned about Al Capone being buried here from Trip Advisor. I was in Countryside Il on buisness and decided to go. I was all pumped up about going to see Al Capone.....until I stepped out of my car and kind of looked around and could see families visiting there loved ones graves.....felt like a complete idiot and left. Even though it is were the infamous gangster Al Capone is buried, it's still a graveyard. And graves are meant to be respected.

This is one of the largest and most impressive Catholic cemeteries in Chicago and very historc. Don't come looking for early history -- it was established around 1900. But what is amazing here is the beautiful bishop's mausoleum at the center surrounded by the many gangster graves such as those of Al Capone (his second "final" resting place), Dean O'Banion, Hymie Weiss, Sam Giancana and other lovable creatures. The monuments themselves are unusual and impressive too, including the "Italian Bride" and the 3-D stone family portrait.If you are into cemeteries this one is worth a special trip.
