We found cheaper airfare by flying into Mesa instead of Phoenix. It is a small airport so it's easy to find everything you need and get to and from quickly. The only drawback we found was it didn't have enclosed jetways so you had to walk down a ramp directly from the plane. It was a beautiful sunny day so that wasn't a problem. On an inclement day maybe not so great.

The most peaceful place I experienced in my exploration of this area. It's small, so visiting when crowds are sparse is highly recommended so you get your true experience of the serenity and healing energy of this quick hike! Favorite spot, if I lived there I would hike it every day.

No trip to Sedona would be complete without a drive to the airport to enjoy the spectacular views over the city. A short drive up a winding, steep road takes you to a gravel parking lot with a large viewing area which looks out to the north and includes telescopes so you can get a closer look at Sedona's spectacular red rock outcroppings and the white dome of Thunder Mountain. For the more spiritually minded, the airport mesa is the site of one of Sedona's famous "vortices" (locally referred to as "vortexes") which are said to be spots of great spiritual power where energy emanates from the ground and is said to have miraculous powers. Some people claim to be able to feel the vortex power as a physical sensation, like a tingling feeling. "Ground zero" for the airport mesa seems to be the little red rock knob about halfway up the hill. It's a short scramble or a bit longer hike to the top, and whether or not you believe in energy vortices you will become a believer in this particular spot's scenic power. Climb up here just before sunrise and you'll be treated to a spectacular view to both the north and the southeast. But get here early - the few parking spots at the vortex pull-out are filled well before sunrise; otherwise you'll have to hike down from the airport parking area.

The Mesa has amazing sunset views and its a vortex site. There is also an easy hike nearby for more sunset views which I enjoyed.

If you like to find the unusual restaurant when you travel, you will be delighted with the setting and food at this restaurant located at the Sedona Airport. The food and service are wonderful. We like to go for breakfasr and the ricotta pancakes melt in your mouth. The added bonus is a different spectacular view of Sedona!

We really enjoyed looking down on the city of Sedona with the mountains as a backdrop. Great spot for pictures.Stay on the paved overlook if there have been recent rains. A friend ventured down a trail and came back with 2" of caked red mud on his shoes....

Airport Mesa offers spectacular views of Sedona. It was a short drive to the top if the mesa where the Sedona Airport is located. The views at sunset were amazing. Definitely a place to see the sun rise or set. Worth the short trip.

Went up to the Airport diner for lunch & was surprised at the amount of people there. The place isn't real big & would appear that many of the locals eat here. We just had sandwiches, but the portions were huge & the service was very good. The scenery is mostly looking out over the runway & the occasional airplane or helicopter taking off, but the place is worth the trip.

We were told that this was the best place to watch the sunset over the hills of Sedona. It was very crowded and the lookout is overrated. The sun does not set behind the beautiful rocks so the changes in color is subtle at best. Give this a miss.

We were advised to stop here for some of the best views of the various rock formations overlooking Sedona. Certainly, these picturesque views had me camera ready. Beautiful vista provides ample room for walking and waiting for the sunset to grant you the best photographs you could have imagined.

Spectacular views of the valley from this vantage point. You feel like you're on top of the world. Not too challenging, but very cool !

Visiting Sedona in January, this was the first restaurant we tried. It's a trendy little place, with a full bar and eclectic menu. When the waitress misheard my husband's order, the replaced BOTH our dinners - his with what he ordered and re-cooked mine so I could have it hot. The owner and waitress were very nice. Recommended for a late afternoon drink at their bar as the sun is setting, or just to watch the planes come in. This is NOT your typical airport restaurant. We will go again.

Sweeping 180 views and a must see at sunset. There were two guides there who were able to answer any questions we had about the area and also some of the birds we saw. Take your camera.

I wanted a hike that was close by and I wanted to check out one of Sedona's energy vortexes. The lower parking lot for the vortex was already full, so I drove to the top of the mesa to park in a larger lot near the Sedona overlook. That's a great place to check out West Sedona from above and the rocks to the north. People seem to congregate there for sunset as well. There is a relatively new trail that takes you down to the Summit rock where the vortex is. About half a mile. I climbed up to the top of the rock and found a place near the edge. I sat basking in the sun, but was somewhat annoyed by the silly tourist conversations around me and the sounds of workmen improving the trail to Summit rock. Then, I laid back on the stone. Next thing I was zoned out. I don't even know how long I laid there. Everything else faded away for a while. After some time, I opened my eyes and was back. The experience was a lot like some of the acupuncture treatments I've had. If you go in for this sort of thing, I recommend it. According to the guides, the airport vortex increases masculine energy, which relates to strength. Now, on the the Airport Mesa hike. The hike starts from the airport vortex. I followed it clockwise. The first part was challenging with a lot of rocks, narrow trail, and slanted rock faces. the trail got easier as I went around the mesa. It was also fun to see helicopters and places coming in to land up above. Key point: when you get around to the town side, the trail drops down closer to the elevation of town, and then goes back up and brings you back to the parking lot of the vortex. Since I had parked at the top, I had to walk back up to the top of the mesa. Instead of a 3.3 mile hike, I did more like 4.5miles and a lot of elevation change. It was a great outing, just a bit longer than I had planned for. What's most impressive is how you can be right in town and still fell out in the middle of nowhere.
