This is not too far out of the way and well worth the short trip out of Benson off the freeway. It's a sprawling ranch house where three or so rooms at one end have been turned into a bookstore. It's like browsing someone's private collection and finding they have exquisite taste in southwest subjects and a broad range of other subjects as well. I could have spent several hours but only had time for one. Cash is preferred. I got books for children, anathologies of authors I wasn't familiar with, southwest history and biographies. If you love books, stop in, you'll be glad.

This bookshop takes up 3 rooms in a cattle ranch just 2.5 miles from town. It's been in operation for 41 years. There is a lot of character, beautiful views, and has a great collection of literature. It's a real treat to go here--don't miss it--especially if you like bookshops. We love places like this--off the beaten path and unique.

We enjoyed our ride in the desert to this ranch and were greeted at the door by Mrs. Bundy, her dog, and her burros. The bookstore is located within several rooms of her home, and she gives her visitors a detailed and knowledgeable tour of the shelves of books, both old and new. You will learn about many of the authors and some of the historic characters of these editions, most written about the Southwest and Arizona. Throughout the year you can attend a variety of festivals here with local authors and their books, in addition to music, food, and plenty of fun. A great Southern Arizona experience, not to be missed!

We were enjoying a January week in southeastern Arizona, when we found Singing Wind Bookshop via the Internet. On a whim, we made time to visit. Mrs. Bundy and Singing Wind Ranch Bookshop truly delighted us the moment we walked through the door. As native westerners from another state and now Arizona residents for several years, we absolutely loved that the bookshop was on a Benson-area cattle ranch that's off the beaten path (4 miles outside of Benson). Mrs. Bundy greeted us warmly and then gave us a "tour" of every bookshelf and every section of each. She knows where every book is by memory. As book lovers, book store fans, and Old West history buffs, we knew we had come "home"! Our only regret is we live in northern Arizona, and have to plan another week off so we can spend more time inside Singing Wind. Yes, only cash or checks (with ID) are accepted for payment, but we had read that online and came prepared. It was around noon, and Mrs. Bundy let us have our picnic lunch that we brought on some tables in her yard, and let our dog join us outside. We had an expansive view of the ranch, and watched a couple of horses and burros graze. So quiet and peaceful! We also saw a family of coyotes (with 2 pups) saunter across one of her pastures. Another customer was a rancher from New Mexico who knew Mrs. Bundy. We enjoyed listening to them swap stories. This bookshop and Mrs. Winn Bundy are Arizona treasures, and we hope to return as soon as we can. April 6, 2014, Singing Wind Ranch Bookshop celebrates 40 years of book selling. Congratulations, and thank you for the invitation to your celebration!

Even though there seems to be a large selection of western books here, I cannot recommend this shop. Firstly, its out in the boondocks. If you make a wrong turn you end up on private property. Kinda scary.Secondly, none of the book shelves are marked. There is nothing telling you what kind of books are where. What kind of book store doesn't want their customers to find the books they want? Thirdly, they do not take credit or debit cards. In 2014!. Also, it is not handicap friendly. If you are in a wheelchair, forget about coming here.Lastly, I had the unpleasant experience of meeting the owner, Winn. O M G!! Talk about bad energy!! I've heard the stories about her, but hoped they weren't true. They were!!! Never again will I grace the threshold of this evil place.

Located on a working cattle ranch, this book store was opened by Winn Bundy when she realized her personal collection had grown beyond bounds. The shop is filled with books on every possible subject. I'm told Mrs. Bundy has tales about each book, but she was not in when we visited. The guide I had was nice but didn't share any stories. You'll find books by and about Arizonans and books by Jimmy Carter and political books and history books and poetry and cookbooks and gift cards and oh... way too much to continue. Monthly events bring in local and not-so-local talent. It's a wonderful place to visit. Call for directions.

This is an unusual bookshop, many little rooms, Mrs. Bundy, the owner knows every book in that shop, she is a wealth of information. Twice a year she has a function where she brings in poets, singers, authors, has food to share and of course you are expected to purchase a CD, Book, etc...to help pay for these entertainers expenses getting there. It's fun, it's social and just an interesting place to see....Books, Books, Books, everywhere.
