This is a beautiful and historic Anglican (Episcopal) church. It was the first church on the island, and served as the only community meeting place on the island for many years, so a visit to this church can tell you a lot about Island history. There are close ties to John and Charles Wesley (who were here before any church building was built). The stained glass windows (some by Tiffany) portray Gov. Oglethorpe and the native peoples, as well as the Wesley brothers and the first Rector, Anson Dodge. A visit to the graveyard is fascinating as well. If you come for Sunday services, you can expect traditional but un-stuffy Anglican worship. Be forewarned that you need to arrive at least 20 minutes before the service begins just to get a seat, as it is very popular (in high season) and seating is limited.

Very interesting if you want to know a little history about Charles and John Wesley. The church had some very good examples of what life was like back then.

Just off the traffic circle on the north end of the island is a quaint church in a peaceful setting. Although the church is not always open a look inside is worth the trip.

Historic church with wonderful stained glass and a long history on St. Simon. The church was constructed by shipbuilders using post & beam with pegs. The heart of pine interior has never been stained or treated since the church was constructed and it is beautiful. The cemetery has the graves of many important people who lived in the area. Well worth a visit.

This beautiful church of aged heart pine resembles a ship. Catch the tour! Lovely stained glass windows, interesting construction, spiritually uplifting. It has such history in the church and the graveyard. Old graves and headstones are surrounded by tall live oak trees dripping with spanish moss, azaleas and camelias.

Worth the short drive over to see this church and grounds. Very pretty setting and especially interesting for Methodists to see where our founder conducted sermons!

Looking at the graves is very interesting. Such a beautiful place. It doesn't cost much money and it's fun to ride the trolley there. Amazing place to take family pictures on the front lawn.

This beautiful church has lots of history attached to it. And the there are guides who are happy to help you by explaining the importance of this still active church and they share some interesting stories as well. The grounds are so amazing with flowering trees and paths to walk on through the historic aygraveyard. I enjoyed my visit immensely. And I may return again before we leave St. Simons Island for home.

The history of this beautiful church is very interesting and the structure itself is fascinating. The guides do a wonderful job explaining both. We could have wandered around the graveyard for hours. There are many names there with an historical connection to the island and GA. Take the time to visit this lovely spot.

I have visited this site several times over the years, and I still enjoy it each time. It is the loveliest of settings: a tiny wooden church set among giant oaks. The inside is beautiful - the church is open most afternoons from 2:00 to 5:00pm. The entire grounds are beautiful and interesting - you can easily spend an hour here. It is about a 10-minutre drive out of downtown St. Simons, but really a special place to visit. The church has beautiful stained glass windows, one by Tiffany. My favorite part is the setting: picture-perfect.

The story of the building from the Civil War through the visits by four sitting Presidents was very interesting. Some of the pews that were not destroyed by Union forces as they used the church for a stable still remain. The grounds are beautiful, and information on some who are buried in the cemetery was touching. We recommend it as a place to stop if you visit the island.

Beautiful, just beautiful...Full of history. A place you might not notice, but well worth the visit.

I wasn't able to go inside the church but I strolled the beautiful grounds which has lots of oak trees (and a cypress tree outside the front fence). Very peaceful and serene. It's worth dropping by if you're in the area.
