Visited the monument last week in February 2015This was the site of Jefferson Davis' capture in May 1865 -after he fled to try to link up with Trans-Mississippi forces still fighting, even after the surrender of Lee and Johnston at Appomattox and Durham. After capture President Davis was taken back to Washington and imprisoned for two years, and his citizenship was stripped. The monuments display and memorial thoroughly describe the events. Directions to the site were well labeled and it was well worth the 15 mile trip.

History was made here. THIS is where the Civil War ended. With the capture of Jefferson Davis, the war was over. It's a little off the beaten path, but worth the trip. About 15 minutes off I-75.Small entrance fee of 3 or 4 dollars I think.

I was told that it is attended by an elderly man who does it on a volunteer basis. When we stopped by the grass was over knee high, limbs down, and the entrance way had vines growing up them. The 'museum' wasn't open,but the time posted said it should be. I truly hope that the State Of Ga will wake up to losing our historical sites .

A little out of the way but worth the trip, very interesting and lots of artifacts . The lady in the museum was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot. Worth a stop and small admission fee

I grew up in Fitzgerald in the 1950's when this park was undeveloped compared to the wonderful experience of living history it now offers. Congrats to the park administrators and the state of Georgia for seeing the potential and developing it into an excellent history lesson.

This site is packed full of artifacts of the time period when Jefferson Davis was President and later the site of his capture. The 18 min video was most informative.

This is a wonderful place to learn about President Jefferson Davis and is the site of his capture by the invading army of the North. Excellent museum bequeathed with historical items and manned by a knowledgable curator.

Very informative and historical site. Interesting artifacts on display including the original marker (tree stump and wagon axle) placed by yankee soldiers after the capture of Jefferson Davis. Be sure to watch the 18 min. video that tells the story of how JD was captured in May 1865, ending the Confederacy. Price $4.00 for adults.

Well off the beaten path you will find this important piece of Confederate history--the place where Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America was captured after the formal surrender by General Robert E. Lee to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia. The little museum is interesting and quite affordable. Make absolutely sure to see one of the every-thirty-minutes-during- the-day viewings in the museum of the video about the capture of Jefferson Davis as the video is the centerpiece of the whole experience.

This site is located a few miles off of I-75 but worth the trip if you are a civil war buff. The museum is small but has some very interesting artifacts. Walk down a path to a site where Confederate soldiers were killed then stand at the spot where Jefferson Davis was captured. Quietly reflect on the impact this war had on our great country and it will send chills through you.If you visit in April the azaleas and dogwoods are beautiful. They make the Masters jealous! Bring your lunch and enjoy the grounds.

if only the south wouldve won without slavery this world i believe wouldve been alot better.we love this ol park i been going here since i was a baby my grandmother was from here and this park backs up to her brothers property..its has all the ol artifacts that just takes u back to the time..we had family reunions here for many decades..

This small non pretencious out of the way state park near the small town of Irwinville, GA. pays trubute to the actual site where the caputre of Jefferson Davis occured. It has some wonderful, but limited collections. I enjoyed the pictures of the Davis family. I have been visiting this park since the 50's and was alarmed to find out their best piece was not on exhibit. The Columbus Depot uniform was not on display, and the curator could not tell me when it would be available to view. This has occurred since the state of Georgia has taken control of the park. This is one reason I did not give my gggrandfater's pants to this museum. The other reason was they do not even allow the display of the Confederate Battle Flag, I guess the park is ashamed of it, but as you can tell I'm not. 3 of my gggrandfathers fought under the flag, one died fighting for it.

Too many folks' knowledge of the civil war ends at Appomattox. Not so and this tells part of what happened after Lee and Grant shook hands; Davis' capture/surrender (depending on one's proclivities) at Irwinville, GA. This is a state-run site not to be confused with the Davis birthplace memorial in KY. Not as grandiose as a NHS but they do a good job. Excellent film, historical markers and marble marker. Great place to picnic or good food in nearby Fitzgerald. Not far off I-75. Take a break on your trek to/from WDW AND only about an hour away from the Andersonville NHS and National POW museum. Why stop there? A few minutes more to Americus (where Lindberg soloed) and Plains (Jimmy Carter NHS). Who says there's nothing to see in Georgia ?

Robert E. Lee was not given permission to surrender the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis was headed south to regroup and continue the fight.This is a very informative museum, as is the Blue and Gray Museum in nearby Fitzgerald.We live near the park and have enjoyed many visits and functions including a wedding reception in the hall.Don't expect a fancy presentation. This is a true site with the real artifacts. Learn about the comedy of errors involved in this scirmish, which was probably more common than an exception.Plan to be in Irwinville for lunch or breakfast and enjoy the best southern food anywhere at Moorhead's Country Store.

Located between I-75 and Fitzgerald, Ga. in the tiny town of Irwinville.There is a small visitor's center which contains an interesting museum and also the place to see a film on the site.Outside is a short nature trail and a memorial marking the spot where Davis was captured.The staff is helpful and offers informative historical tidbits on Davis' life.
