Interesting artifacts, displays, and stories of Fitzgerald creation. Another chapter in post CW reconstruction. Well worth the short drive off the Interstate, especially for young folks who've never seen rural Georgia farmland. Include a visit to the Jefferson Davis Memorial along the way.

Lots of history for the area, be sure and see movie before starting the tour, lots of information about the founding of Fitzgerald after the civil war, a place where Yankees and Confederate veterans could live following their service. Local artifacts on display. They are planning a restoration in 2015, and adding the Fire Engine museum to the existing building. May want to call ahead and make sure the renovations don't cause a closing.

It is in the old train depot with lots of history. Everything is labeled so you know what you are looking at. Lots from the war and history of the town worth a stop

This little museum is excellent if you are interested in local history or Civil War history. Don't miss it.

This little museum in Fitzgerald, Georgia is a must see. It is very affordable to visit with a very knowledgable staff to enhance your viewing experience. While there you must make sure to see the video about the creation and founding of Fitzgerald, Georgia as a colony for Union soldiers in the South after the Civil War. I found it fascinating--a piece of Civil War history that I had never heard of nor knew anything about. I'll let the museum staff and their excellent video provide you with full details, but if you like history in general (and Southern history in particular) you should definitely visit Fitzgerald, Georgia and its Blue and Gray Museum. The museum tells the story of reconciliation, healing, and unity between the North and the South after the most divisive time in our history. And while in Fitzgerald take the few miles ride outside of town to the Jefferson Davis Memorial Park--the site of the capture of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy after the formal cessation of hostilities of the Civil War.

The docent is thoroughly versed on the artifacts in the museum and more than willing to answer questions (or just to lie low when no intervention is needed). I take out-of-town guests to this jewel of a museum freqently. If you are looking for an interesting place to discover Fitzgerald, GA's unique history, this is it.

when you go, read up on your history first, then just enjoy walking where history had taken place. Not large, but they have alot of interesting artifacts there. It is off the beaten track, but if you just want to follow the historic trail it is wonderful.
