A religious centre with a supposed virgin - the village is great - no tarmac and a bit remisniscent of a wild west town. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

It looks like a town from a Clint Eastwood movie, but it's all true. And it has been that way for more than 100 years.Charming streets made of golden sand, houses, stores, villas, mansions, a spectacular cathedral: all painted white. And great places to enjoy the typical food of southern Spain. One of the quaintest places in western Europe, no question about it.It's definitely worth a visit if you happen to be around Sevilla.

A magic place. I was here in one project with teachers and students. Great place! I would like to come back in the future.

Known for pilgrimages, the floor of its streets is entirely in sand, with plenty of private chapels. The horse here is the main element. We had some tapas there so we can garantee that the food is excellent! This is a place to go!

This town was recommended by the receptionist at our Sevilla hotel, as a charming base to explore Donana. One of a kind, the town is unpaved, and the ground is sandy, and some move around by horse. There are tons of little shops and restaurants. We were lucky to be there on the weekend, so we could see pilgrims coming in for their allotted weekend in town. The atmosphere was festive, and the people watching superb!

You have to see it to believe it. Swashbuckling cowboy-esque riders on Andalusian horses cross sandy streets. And the Virgin in the church is definitely worth seeing, too.

I went to one and have seen many clips of this pilgrimages. If they allowed alcohol including wine there would be allot fewer attending. Many are actually religious and welcome this trip. Make the trip, but not during the Rocio!

This is just an amazing place, sand streets, awesome church, I visited once when the belen was set up... something worth seeing. The town has an olde worldy time stood still feel and the marsh is full of wild birds. Some great tapas bars too !

Even for the non-religious, this Christian pilgrimage destination is a great place to visit. Great, cowboy-movie scenery, interesting history, and an enjoyable way of keeping alive some of Andalusia's traditions, such as horse-back riding.

The Church of our Lady of El Rocio is an important destination to Catholics in the province and beyond. Plan to go next year by horse if can bring my moungt from US.

.when entering church your attracted to the internal art work/goldleave and the wood carved pictures that stand out from its frame. impressive.when outside you feel as your back in time, when only horse and carrige, no road markings, just dust. buildings looked and had a weston feel to it .if you dont do crowds ,avoid the month of may ,as it gets very busy, peaple coming from all over to pay there respect. el rocio
