tui cathedral

Tui is on the Camino Portugues Route, a route that starts from Lisbon to Santiago, Spain. From the Fortaleza in Valenca, Portugal, I was able to take pictures of the Cathedral from a distance. We started our hike from Valenca early in the morning, eager to get to Tui and do a bit of sightseeing before we continued on our hike to the next town on our agenda. I was certainly not disappointed at all with this old, charming town. A good hike up the hill to get to the Cathedral which combines Roman and Gothic architecture. Quite an impressive cathedral!

Well worth the visit. If I remember right entrance fee was 6 euro which entitled you to visit to cathedral, museum and inner courtyard.Very peaceful

This cathedral is different from any other I have visited. Smaller, and most original. The side chapels are quite original and charming, and the organ is very beautiful. It is quite worth the visit.

Find time for a stop in Tui...the Cathedral is very impressive and of course worth a look. Stop for a drink on the main square and watch the world go by for a few moments and admire the old balconied buildings with intricately decorated windows - faded glory...Walk to views of the River close by. Take the opportunity to drive ( or walk!) over the Tui Bridge to Valenca in Portugal. The Bridge itself is beautiful and was built in "Eiffel" like style.

Lively quaint town on a river. Church is beautiful. A great start for the St. James' Way. Started in Porrinho ( about 13 km further down the road) as the 100 km milestone for the pilgramage to Santiago de Compostela is there. Great, never to forgotten, experience.

We walked from Valenca to the village and visited the cathedral. As with many cathedrals this one was also very impressive in its grandeur.

The tiny city of Tui is a gem.Not only a Cathedral,old town and river walks,a walk across the bridge over the Minho river and you can visit Portugal.The resturants are varied and friendly.Tourist office can supply maps and timetables.

We visited Tui Cathedral during our recent trip to Tui. It's a fine cathedral, a proper one with a bishop and has been around since the mid 13th century. Tui sits on a hill and the cathedral has served as both a cathedral and a fortress since then. This means that from the outside it possibly lacks the grace of other cathedrals in Spain, like Leon and Burgos, but it has a rough charm that appealed to us. The portico is particularly fine, with excellent carvings around the doorway. The inside is the usual mixture of altars and excellent stonework and vaults. There are cloisters that you can visit, but when we were there, we were told that there was only a tour available at 6pm for 6€ each - this seemed a bit steep for what it was, although there was a museum included in this price too. The cathedral was free to enter, so I was surprised at the cost of the cloisters. Because the cathedral is surrounded by many other buildings, you don't really get the perspective on the scale. For that, you have to be either at the bottom of the hill by the river, or even better, look at it from across the river in Valenca in Portugal. From there, viewing it from that fortress, you really get a good sense of the two fortresses facing each other across the border.It is a great place to visit. Many people do come here as part of the Portuguese route of the Camino de Santiago. Certainly worth a trip.

La Catedral es el principal monumento de la ciudad, encontrándose en lo más alto de la colina, dominando el pueblo. Hay un agradable paseo por sus alrededoes, siempre por el casco antiguo. Su interior merece la pena, pues hay varios retablos, un magnífico órgano, coros, claustro, visita a las cubiertas por poco precio, etc. Aunque no seas religioso es una visita que merece la pena por lo laborioso de las tallas que guarda en su interior.

La catedral de Tuy asoma en lo alto de la ciudad como si de una fortaleza se tratase. Es una visita obligada cuando uno cruza la frontera entre España y Portugal atravesando el Miño. Sus alrededores son preciosos, tanto de vistas como de ambiente. Es de origen románico aunque de fachada principal gótica, la cual, es una verdadera delicia escultórica, con un conjunto de escenas de la Natividad hermosísimas. Además de recorrer con tranquilidad y sosiego la catedral para imbuirse de espiritualidad, aconsejo sentarse y contemplar el retablo de la expectación y la figura de la Ascensión de la Virgen que se encuentra suspendida delante del altar mayor. No dejar de visitar el claustro maravilloso y de estilo cisterciense, único medieval conservado de todas las catedrales gallegas. Desde ahí, se puede acceder a la antigua sala capitular y a una terraza exterior desde la que se contempla una preciosa vista del río Miño. También se puede visitar el museo catedralicio.

Bonita catedral románica y gótica, puedes visitar la catedral y el claustro, también el jardín desde el que tienes unas vistas inmejorables al río Miño, al otro lado del río ves Portugal y mirando hacia adelante el pueblo de Tui que te rodea hacie arriba. Excelentes fotos. Luego puedes quedarte a comer ya que hay varios restaurantes, unas bonitas calles empedradas, puedes bajar al embarcadero en el río y subir a unas bonitas plazas que hay arriba. Yo fui a pasar el día y me gustó mucho, además me hizo un clima inmejorable.

Pórtico excepcional almenado, con restos de policromia.Esta catedral del s.XII XIII es una joya a veces desconocida, triforio impresionante, sacristía en madera , órganos restaurados, museo en el que se conserva orfebrería de los judíos, claustro gótico con la torre del homenaje con esplendidas vistas sobre el cauce del río Miño, y la ciudad portuguesa de Valença do Minho. Hermosa imagen de la Virgen embarazada y pequeño retablo donde hay una representación poco habitual del limbo junto al infierno, purgatorio y cielo.Y otras cosas más a descubrir por el visistante

Es una catedral bonita, especialmente recomendable el efecto de visitarla de noche, al igual que recorrer las calles aledañas, tan similares a la ciudad vieja de Coruña o Santiago.

Catedral de visita obrigatória quando visitar Tui/Espanha. Tipica das catedrais deste País. A zona envolvente é toda ela disponibilizada com casas de tapas e petiscos.

Simplemente impresionante. El casco viejo de Tui, con sus casas y calles de piedra, con los carteles con los nombres de las calles hechos uno por uno de manera artesanal y totalmente a mano, nos sobrecoge desde el primer momento. Caminar esas calles es volver el tiempo atrás 400 años. Llenas de vistas y rincones hermosos, nos invitan a soñar y a evocar un pasado bellísimo y fantástico a la vez. Y su catedral gótica, por fuera es austera, por dentro es sencillamente sobrecogedora. Visité las grandes catedrales góticas de alemania y francia, y la de tui es sombría y llena de espiritualidad, como si el tiempo no hubiera pasado por ahi. Los amantes de la música encontrarán un regalo inesperado en el museo de esta catedral: los libros de recopilaciones de canto gregoriano en notación antigüa, con los pentagramas de cuatro líneas y todas las figuras antigüas. Simplemente increible. O las ropas que los religiosos usaban hace siglos atrás. Tesoros imperdibles y testigos insobornables del paso del tiempo.
