Revitalised Area of Birmingham that shows the Canal to its upmost and brings it in as a Focal Point. The Architecture here is Great and it gives a nice feeling if quietness within the hustle and bustle of City Life. Many Restaurants and bars here to choose from from a variety of tastes and preferences.Only drawback is one must be very careful near to the edge of the Canal as there are no barriers and, in part, no lights - could be better lit and safer for pedestrians especially children and the partially sighted. Otherwise this would have been judged higher.Otherwise very good area that is well worth a visit.

Its nice here by the canal, and it's a good place for a little wander by the canal to watch any of the boats that may pass by.

I have been to the Basin on many occasions, initially--some 30 years ago--by narrow boat. The formerly semi derelict area around the canal junction has been transformed into a thriving dining area with a wide choice, water taxis, pleasant and safe tow path and a bijou residential area

Central canal area. Closer to Brindleys place and sealife and mailbox. You can spend a lot of time around this area.

Birmingham is all about canals. You cannot miss a walk along them. Gas street basin is the dock for the little canal boats. Overlooking the Hyatt Hotel and littel canalside cafes on the over side, it is a very sunny and quiet place. Have a coffee or a lunch in the cafe and continue exploring the city.

No visit to Birmingham would be complete without a walk along its historic canals. If you do this you will almost certainly end up walking through Gas Street Basin. Its quite a picturesque area with plenty of colourful narrowboats. There is a great mixture of quaint old and ultra modern buildings on display. walk over the cast iron bridges onto the island in the centre all you'll get a great view towards the Cube. On a nice day you can sit outside the Canal Side Cafe and watch the boats go by, while drinking a pint of real ale.

Gas Street basin is like a trip back in time. It's a breath of fresh air to get away from busy traffic along Broad Street down to the tranquillity of canal-side living. You can really sense what Birmingham was like just 200 years ago as you wander the narrow paths beside the canals. It is highly picturesque with multi coloured narrow boats and a variety of water fowl, lazily going about their business. Here the Worcester and Birmingham canal meets the main Birmingham canal, in a triangular basin bordered by walkways and the Worcester Bar bridge from 1792 all lovingly restored.

As an historical site this place takes some beating. Atmospheric and photogenic. Suitable for families and strolling couples. So much canal architecture it hurts. Plenty of trips and even a narrowboat cafe nearby but the masterpiece is the canal basin. Not dreary or plain, just a jewel

I absolutely recommend having some English tea and toasts in one of the lovely boat bars (I can't really remember the proper name now..) by 11/12am. Unless you have a bit of hangover.. Then I don't think it will be a good experience.

Wander through the Mailbox around the basin and under the bridge to Brindley Place and all the main points of interest are there, The Centenary Square, New Library across Paradise Circus to the Museum and the Cathedral. Numerous restaurants and cafés this is the heart of the city.

This is a lovely place for a stroll night or day. Visited at night, so lit up. In the day there is a cafe barge. Around this area, there are lots of bars and restaurants for all tastes.

Very tastefully refurbished. Lots of choices of pubs and restaurants with a wide variety of foods. A tranquil, peaceful haven in the middle of a bustling city.
