I love visiting this beautiful theatre in Newcastle and always feel like it is a special evening. Shrek didn't disappoint. We were at the back of the stalls with seats labelled as partial view- this was only a drawback due to the overhang from the upper circle! Only a problem when we stood up to clap for the finale!!

What a shame that when the theatre was refurbished patron's comfort wasn't considered. The seats are hard and really uncomfortable to sit still on for 2-3 hours.

Told to turn phone off during second half of show when a i was sorting a lift home and b dealing with a serious situation but nobody else got told to turn off there phones and they took photos how the hell that works i never know. If you go just avoid talking to the staff the seating plan is easy enough however if you are in the stalls you need to remember theres no row a or b since the theatre royal was beautifully refurbished a few years ago. They still count from a b c d whatever when really its now c d e f so over the phone bookings or face to face bookings don't be fooled

We bought our tickets at the last minute and were lucky enough to sit in a box, there were two of us sharing with another couple which meant we had plenty of space and a good view, there were five chairs in there but I'm afraid the fifth would have had to sit like a 'spare part' behind us. We watched the the 'curious incident of the dog in the night' and although the sound was fine and the stage set really clever the play didn't hold our attention and was extremely repetitive. I think the other lady in our box shared our opinion, she slept through most of it! But that should not detract from the beautiful venue, staff were attentive and service in the bar was prompt, I would love to go back.

Beautiful theatre and have been many times. Saw Barnum on the 22nd February and it was a fantastic show that could could watch over and over again there is so much going on, on the stage

Went to see the musical petticoats and miniskirts - was in the upper gallery. The theatre was great - good atmosphere and a great show. Only slight complaint I would have was the leg room was pretty tight to the seats in front ( bit like easy jet planes ). Ordered interval drinks and they were ready waiting for us.

We went yesterday to see the matinee of Barnum. What a great show. Brian Conley at his best. All the actors were excellent. A very colourful show. The theatre itself is well looked after. We had super seats in row G in the stalls plenty of leg room.

Fantastic show starring Brian Connelly as P.T. Barnum. Loved the audience interaction. Seats in the stalls, always feel more roomy than any other theatre I've visited.

I first saw Brian Conley supporting Cannon and Ball back in the '80s. I've loved him in the Royal Variety Performances, Seaside Specials and especially the "its a puppet" magical moments so I wasn't quite sure what to expect seeing him in a serious character role. WOW! He is amazing and really becomes Barnum. His relationship with Linzi Hateley who plays his wife Chairy is so real. In movies actors get the chance to do scenes over and over again and also have the benefit of the editing room. On stage actors have to perform in the now. You really believed in their love for each other, they were an old married couple with an enduring love for each other. As the lead Brian didn't have to do the circus stunts, but he did - fire eating, tightrope walking and stilt walking. This is an amazing show which you left wanting more but also with lots of questions - wanting to know more about Barnum and his life. Well done to the full cast, a gold star for each and every one of you. For all of you out there, get yourselves a ticket to the greatest show on earth, you won't regret it!

Me and my husband visited the theatre royal as a surprise for valentines day, we had gallery partial view tickets for the nutcracker. It was a brilliant performance which I would see again, the seats are extremely high so not for anyone wary of heights. We were not hindered by view apart from the very back of the stage up high was out of view , apart from that we missed nothing which on seeing the ticket did concern me . It was a matinee show which and there was a lot of small children there who lost interest after five minutes and did make a bit of noise but I have kids myself so it didn't annoy me at all , drinks at the bars were as expected.... Expensive but hey ho it was a special day ha ha I would definitely return again but for an evening show and slightly lower seats

This is a 'must see 'play with an inspirational actor playing the part of the Boy with Autism. The stage setting supports the actors brilliantly with the design, lighting and visual effects bringing dynamism and movement to the performance. You really get to understand how it feels to have this and the great strengths that people with Autism bring to society. Now read the book again!

Excellent show. The main character was brilliantly portrayed and even though I read the book years ago, the story was still fresh. The way that they led the story around the stage was excellent too. Well worth seeing!

The Theatre Royal has to be one of the country's most beautiful venues, excellently restored a few years back.Curious Incident was one of the most stunning and original piece of theatre I have ever seen. Fantastic conception, acting, choreography, design and lighting. With added A-level maths!Great views from Grand Circle seats. Although previously I've thought that the theatre can get too hot, this wasn't a problem tonight.Plenty of room in the bar to enjoy pre- and interval drinks, with views over Grey Street.

I have been looking through the reviews and can't believe how few people mentioned the very hard uncomfortable seats. To think of all the money that was spent on the refurbishment and putting seats like that in.My friend and I went to see The Mousetrap in September. Excellent show but never been as uncomfortable. Everybody around us were squirming in pain, the lady in front could hardly move with backache.I missed out on going to Top Hat with a group as I couldn't bear to think of sitting in there again. I certainly won't be back

Our seats were 'restricted view' but I don't think anything was lost from the magical performance by it. Beautiful building and friendly staff.
