We had the pleasure of attending the opening of the Restaurant at Compton Verney last Saturday. Very pleased to see the new look and the new menu. The food was fabulous and we look forward to visiting again. Well done to the new caterers!

Had lunch in Compton Verney's new Trees Restaurant the other day. It was absolutely fantastic! Great menu to please all tastes including thoughtful touches like a fruit option for pudding and children's menu. Prices were very reasonable and the new décor was warm and inviting. I had the kedgeree to start, chicken with bean and chorizo as a main and the white chocolate crème brulee to top it off - all of which was amazing. There is so much to see and do at Compton Verney, it is nice to know that when I spend all day there is a fab place for lunch and tea.

well worth getting the years membership if you are local so you can go there just for the afternoon. The food is excellent. You need to check what is on that day. Ideal for families

We've visited several times, once in the summer when they had children's activities including a butterfly hunt and burns of prey, another time when they had a forest school and another time with the inlaws for cake and tea.The grounds tickets are of good value, especially when they have events on. Each time the people employed for the events have been very friendly, interesting and engaging with adults and children. We especially liked the lady running forest school in very cold weather who taught my husband how to make fire lighters.The formal grounds are nice and good for the children to explore finding fir cones and feathers etc. we haven't done longer walks through the fields yet - maybe next time. I'm not really taken with the cafe, it's a little generic and run of the mill. The restaurant is lovely and they gave happily served us just coffee and cake inside or out in the garden.The children's play area in the wood is excellent. If the ticket price was slightly less I think we would visit just for this.

I've visited Compton Verney twice now and if I am around this area I will make a point of going back.The Gallery consistently shows interesting and excellently curated exhibitions.The grounds are beautiful and well worth a walk around.The restaurant is lovely and has great food if you want a snack or a meal.

In regards to entertaining children, we would like to let you know that we aim to help families engage with our collections, exhibitions and grounds. To do this we provide a range of self-lead family activities from backpacks and trails to the Resource Rooms. We also have a Discovery Room, which is a dedicated space for children of all ages, to take part in hands-on arts and crafts, plus there is a wide range of child friendly books and toys. During school holidays we also schedule drop-in activities for all ages, such as soap carving, clay model making, ‘make your own landscape’ and still-life drawing. We run events for families over special weekends such as our Grounds Weekend and Birthday Party, which involve live performances, storytelling and additional programming. We also have a lovely woodland adventure playground.All of the above is included in the ticket price. This restored country house only 10 minutes west of the M40 north of Banbury is a hidden treasure. From dereliction it has been restored and reimagined for the public to enjoy the gardens (in the Capability Brown manner), the house and the galleries, alongside and excellent shop, cafe and restaurant. Car parking was excellent and there is a shuttle bus to the house, though the walk is not that long (many other estates have very long drives). Imagine the best National Trust facilities you've ever seen rolled together and then some. I felt this raised the bar. The art work is wonderful, with primitive British art on display from the Tate during our visit. We had a personal guide around, all within the not unreasonable entry price (we bought season tickets). Our lunch was a treat, and we bought interesting Christmas presents in the shop. I have seen the signs on the local roads for years but never made the effort. I wish I had done so but am very pleased we have finally made the effort and we will be back. Next year (2015) there's to be a Cannalletto exhibition - already in the diary.

We are members and go to all the exhibitions. It is great value with 4-5 different ones each year. The Moore Rodin this year was amzing and made good use of the landscape. Keep a lookout for what is on - there are always something interesting and the permanent collection of folk art and portraits will appeal to your children too. The food can be quite good but busy - you could try the gastropubs in Ettington or Wellesbourne

Easy-to-find location, good parking, nice walk to the house. The exhibition was expertly staged and well signed, the staff helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant was satisfactory and everything reasonably priced. i will definately go there again.

Spotted this museum as being highly rated on Trip Advisor, and as we were in convenient range we thought it worth a visit. Reading how the house was derelict for decades after its military use in WW2, it was very pleasing to see how it has been restored to make a very attractive venue. The works of art are displayed well and clearly numbered so that by using the well-designed leaflets available in each room you are easily able to identify each piece. I can think of many stately homes that I have visited that would benefit from an arrangement like this. Apart from the permanent exhibits, we paid the extra fee to see the British Folk Art exhibition, which was very well done. A quirky and varied collection of items were attractively displayed and intelligently, and at times amusingly, labelled. Although we didn't stop to eat there, the cafe and restaurant were well laid out, and the facilities all well kept. The grounds are also very attractive. Inevitably there wasn't a whole lot going on in a horticultural sense in the middle of December but, when the sun came out, it was apparent that this would be a very pleasant place to stroll around. All in all, a very pleasant way of spending three hours or so.

We also went to see the British Folk Art exhibition and stop for lunch. The exhibition was delightful if a little thin and lunch was good and workmanlike but not stunning. The game pie was slightly lacking in flavour but was full of mixed game even if most of it tasted like beef. Service was pleasant and efficient. Desserts were delicious. All in all good value for money in a slightly unmemorable way.

We really enjoyed the British Folk Art exhibition, as we had the Moore/Rodin exhibition earlier in the year. The galleries are beautifully appointed, as are all the other facilities. Lunch in the restaurant was excellent too. We had the Christmas specials, turkey and nut roast respectively, both delicious and with perfectly cooked vegetables. The turkey was the most expensive main course on the menu, very reasonably priced at £12.50. Service was good, particularly considering that two of the waiters only started work in the restaurant that day. A good many tables were occupied; a lot of the customers that day were apparently Members who use the restaurant regularly.

I only visited the restaurant. I found the food average at best. The staff were extremely pleasant & helpful, but I did not find the meal worth the price. We may have been better off just using the cafe. Although the house is beautiful, the restaurant is situated in an annex & lacks any atmosphere, using cheap tables as are in the cafe.All that said, Compton Verney House & grounds is well worth a visit & if you are already there & want something to eat, the food is fine. I would not go there especially to eat!

This is a little hidden gem. Great exhibitions and knowledgeable staff to help although there are written detailed guides for each exhibition. The cafe is a real find, good selection of sandwiches and jacket potatoes, with fillings in individual pots. Good selection of cakes and biscuits too. Toilet are very superior and clean. Walk through the grounds if the weather is fine, or get a free ride to the door if the weather is inclement.
