We took the 14:05 Bridgnorth to Highley on a Saturday afternoon on an impromptu visit to Bridgnorth. We had 40 mins waiting time so we took a short steep walk up to Bridgnorth Castle and Gardens where we enjoyed the remains of the norman castle which leans 15 degrees and is quite a sight. Mary Magdalene Church located in these grounds and worth a visit as its such a focal point. We arrived in plenty of time to board the train which arrived 20 mins before departing. The carriages were full and some passengers had to stand. Highley is just under 30 mins stopping twice at country park and Hampton loade. At Highley our family ticket included entry into the new engine house. We enjoyed looking at the royal carriages and mail train but due to the schedule we had only 30 mins before our return train. We had the option of a later train but that would have left us 2 hours which we felt was too long. This is my families first journey on a steam train and we loved it. Gave us a taster of how we could enjoy a full day on the Severn Valley, and would definitely return for the special events in the future.Family tickets £55 unlimited travel.Only 2 tight spaces left on the overflow car park at 1:15 on a Saturday afternoon and £3 parking charge for the day.

This is a long railway with potential at every station! You can walk in the country park, visit charming towns, see the engine shed and even view the elephants as you pass the safari park. The Severn Valley is a great backdrop to view from the train - especially on a sunny day.

Stepping back in time ,spending your sunday in the restaurant carriage on a vintage train is a wonderful prospect. We were not expecting too much from the food but it was amazing and the service could not have been better. Can't thank the staff and volunteers enough , a perfect day out.

Like all enthusiast run heritage railways the SVR is entirely manned by volunteers, every member of staff we came in contact with on our return journey from Bridgnorth to Kiddlington was absolutely charming towards us. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2nd class carriage and as a bonus a lovely man in full SVR uniform came through with refreshments. Blooming marvellous.

Went for a nice day out as a family and then when we bought our tickets (£55 for a family ticket). Then we sat on the train and had a nice pleasant ride, until we reached Arley station when we were told there was a points failure. We asked a member of staff how long the delay would be and were told "Leave the trains to us, Madam". Then, to top it all, on the way back we were told by a very unfriendly member of staff to "Get up and move" because we were sitting in "first class" which was ridiculous as on the way there we sat in the same seats and were fine, but this guard was not having it. We were then told that we had to move or we would need to pay and extra £10. They try to get money by charging excessive prices, and although the staff are volunteers, that doesn't give them the right to be patronising and rude. Don't reccomend, do not visit.

The new addition of the engine sheds in Highley is brilliant. My little train enthusiast loved it. As usual the trains were amazing (134 tonnes of amazing) the journey was relaxing, the staff were knowledgeable and engaging and the food we ordered was delicious.

Maybe you have to be a particular age for the rid from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth to bring the memories rushing back but it's still a lovely day out for parents of any age and the kids are guaranteed to love it. Make sure you arrive in time to look behind the scenes and to breathe in the smell of steam and coal fuelled smoke and listen out for the sound of the whistle. The ride through the countryside and past the Safari Park is great but it is as much about the smells and the sounds as it is the views from your carriage. Bridgnorth is a nice stop for a coffee and a cake and a view down to the River Severn but if you fancy a pint of decent real ale stop off at Bewdley and while you're there enjoy fish & chips on the banks of the River........ And there's a proper old fashioned sweet shop too. Take your time and it is a great value trip for the school holidays while at Christmas the Santa Specials are deservedly popular.

Amazingly dog friendly day out. Loads of walks from the stations and dog friendly pubs at both ends of the line.

I went with my wife and some friends on the severn valley railway some years back and it was like going back to childhood days ,it was a lovely day out ,we went in the autumn and the weather wasn't so good but nevertheless we all enjoyed it .Lots to entertain the children as well.

This is a great day out with lots to see my husband is disabled and nothing was too much trouble for the staff and volunteers!

Yes its a bit on the pricey side, but worth every penny in my view. All the dedicated staff are helpful, informative and approachable. I had food in Kidderminster Station Cafe which was lovely, well cooked and affordable. Tiolets were clean on the platform and on the trains. All very well organised. When i got to Bridgenorth i went on the cliff Railway as well just to prolong the experiance.A wonderful day out :)

Whenever I return to visit it never ceases to evoke the memories of my childhood! It just seems to capture every detail of railways as they used to be; the steam with its oily smells, the interesting paraphernalia lying alongside the tracks, the carriages with their soft-sprung seating and, above all,the way in which the station staff always seems to have the time to explain everything with a certain degree of passion! Congratulations to all concerned for keeping something very special alive in spite of all the constraints no doubt imposed by "modern" diktats.........long live the SVR!

Cracking spring like day which brought out the half term family groups and everyone from staff to customers just appeared to have a smile on their faces. Great trip and a nice break around Bridgnorth (which I felt had gone downhill a little) well worth the money.
