Visited for the first time on 12 March having been told how nice it was by a friend. We were certainly not disappointed as we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The hellebores were beautiful and the garden was laid out so well. It will be worth a visit later in the Spring once the daffodils and roses are flowering. We also had a superb lunch in the hotel. A lovely carvery which cost £6.39 a head which was excellent value. We will certainly be visiting again.

Great gardens and the cafe is nice, however as a family we are made to feel we are not wanted. Its closed at weekends and when we do get in we feel like others would rather not see kids in there at all.

Owned by Worthing Borough Council, this garden is large enough for a good couple of hours wandering (or running around by the kids). Surprisingly it's free (donations accepted), though there was talk some time ago about the Council charging for the car park (they don't at the moment). There's a map by the entrance, though it's not big enough to get lost :) There's plenty of places to explore and events held during the Summer.Good place for picnics :)Some paths difficult for use with wheelchair or pushchairs.

The tea and cake were delicious and the atmosphere couldn't have been better. The cafe would suit most people but a warning it is very dog friendly so if you are allergic or scared of dogs it may not suit you.

Really fabulous cakes and fantastic service and SO doggie friendly. Staff were excellent and very pleasant surroundings. Will become regulars. Huge portions, terrific value.

The gardens are extensive and well worth a visit, particularly if the sun is shining. There are many plants, trees and flowers to admire, so take a camera when you go.After walking around the gardens, head out of the car park down the hill, and take the first turn right. The cafe is at the bottom of a short drive, and serves mostly snacks. If you like cakes, you will not be disappointed with the size of the portions.Staff are friendly, and accommodating.

Fantastic gardens with a lovely bespoke tea and cake shop. Acres of land to walk round and plenty of benches to sit and look at the beautiful gardens. Well worth a visit. Believe it's closed in the winter

What a lovely gem! This is a beautiful and peaceful garden and it's FREE. We loved taking our kids here when they were little to stroll around and sometimes take a picnic with. Easy parking. Right on the Downs. Beautiful hotel there as well. I recommend Highdown Gardens!

These gardens are beautiful. There are spread out over large area with different types of gardens to see. I have been several times and so have seen the gardens throughout the year. They are great fun for children to explore and for older garden lovers to enjoy. The plants are very interesting. There is a public toilet near the entrance and free parking. The hotel is a short walk down the lane and serves a very tasty tea. The garden staff are very friendly and happy to talk garden matters. It also seems to be a popular place to take photos and paint the flowers and shrubs.

We visited on Tuesday 24 September. The gardens are at their best earlier in the year when the spring bulbs come into flower etc, but the gardens are well worth a visit at any time during the year. During our visit we were impressed with the colour of some of the shrubs and of the anemones. The Chalk Garden is a place of great tranquility and it has a large fish pond. The gardens are on the north side of the A259 and are easily reached from Worthing. There are Tea Rooms and ample car parking. The gardens are mainly set on a hillside and anyone with mobility problems may have difficulty in navigating the site. The gardens are cared for by Worthing Borough Council and the Council are to be congratulated on maintaining them to such a high standard. The gardens are beautiful and we look forward to visiting again and recommend anyone in the Worthing area to visit them.

Smashing tea rooms, beautiful gardens to stroll around, nice places to sit and relax. Parking is easy and the views over the coast are splendid on a sunny day.
