The history of the area, the eating places and the glorious views across the estuary make this a lovely place to visit, especially out of season when it is quieter. The down-side of course is the parking which can be a bit stressful if you don't get your timing right.

Enjoy walking around the old part of the town, and recommend finishing at the Simply Seafood restaurant - so long as there is room.

There is so much to do in Old Leigh and the fact that few cars are around, adds to the ambience. There are plenty of shops, some pubs, ice creams parlours, restaurants, souvenir shops and, of course, seafood places to enjoy. There is something for everyone. If the local art galleries are open, then take a look, it is worth the time spent inside. There is also a museum. There are plenty of views overlooking the sea and the boats of the cocklers - and if you like to sketch and paint, then the world is your oyster. Walking around here is a delight and certainly builds your appetite!

I have been visiting Old Leigh for half a century and always enjoy the experience whether it is just to go to the Cockle sheds or to have a meal. The Grandchildren love it because of the tiny sandy beach, the adults love it because of the variety of pubs. When visiting Old Leigh, whether you were brought up on Cockles, Whelks or Jellied Eels you will not find better anywhere.

We went on a last minute overnight visit to Southend as a social get away from it all and on trip advisor reviews decided to go to Old Leigh.I can only say we must be missing the point. Yes the main section was quite quaint. I confess I'm not into the cockles and whelks experience but this was clearly a big hit locally as it was packed. We did walk along the seafront path towards Southend but there wasn't much too see visually that made us want to return.Sadly my over riding memory is being told that cod and chips from a kiosk window was £8.55 each..!! As said I can only think we must have missed a point on this trip as our experience would appear to be in the minority to the majority of views. But... I wouldn't go back personally

It is a quaint old village right on the sea. It is about a hour to walk along the sea front right from Southend into Leigh. The sea food is great and there is a pub right on the sea front which sells any sea food you can imagine.

Lovely quaint village , lots of lovely pubs for meals and drinks. Only problem in summer is cars , so best to park in carparks further up before entering. as can be a bit hectic when crouded in the summer.

Well worth a visit - great seafood places, lots of pubs, independent shops in the little high street. Don't forget to visit the old fisherman's cottage on the beach which is accessed through the Smithy Heritage Centre (although it only seems to occasionally open).
